The local council wants to restrict usage to 92 days per annum, which isn't commercially viable according to the British Automobile Racing Club, Mallory Park's operator. Furthermore, the council plans to pursue the circuit over alleged breaches of a noise agreement that came into force in 1985.

The two parties have agreed to talk in a bid to find a workable compromise.

Fingers crossed... and in the meantime I, too, plan to attend the Vintage Sports Car Club event on Sunday.

Mike, things are a bit hit and miss with portraits. I always try to take a few, but it's a matter of being in the right place at the right moment (and then hoping a TV cameraman doesn't walk across your shot, which happens about 80 per cent of the time).

I did capture some on Sunday, but I was concentrating on bygone F1 stars such as...

...and Rubens Barrichello.

As for shots #4 and #8, they were taken with an eBay-sourced FA 28-70mm f4. I realise crisper performance might have been available if I'd had £3,000 to spend on a lens, but I regard the 28-70 as £36 well spent...
