Were they Tamron 70-300mm shots or 50mm shots ? I'm confused.

I think all spiders should put nice bright markers on their webs, just so that I don't end up walking through them.

The 2nd one is better I think as the dof covers more of the spider at that angle. Interesting to see it with its prey in the first one though.

I thought I'd post the image into the thread for you.

It's fine here imho, the perspective clearly shows a slope in the landscape. Plus the tree indicates that it was taken level.
I'd be more concerned about the blown highlights in the clouds.

Well 55 views & no comments. I'd much, much, rather have honest criticism than indifference.

It's no surprise that I like this one, as I have a current fascination with limited depth of field, although as with everything photographic, I tend to go ott. Not so in this shot Mike; I love the warm tones of the stone & the sharpness of the text against the textured surface where the face has come away. The fact that the focal plane is exactly where the best light is was not an accident I assume.

I must get around a few graveyards if ever the sun returns.

Anvh, you're missing the subtlety of the sarcasm.

I'm assuming Nic was making reference to the fact that although catwalk models may be near naked, what is displayed could hardly be classified as a breast..

More like someone has wallpapered over a light switch.

Prieni... the depth of the blues in your entry are outstanding. Do you have any rooms with blue decor ? If so, this needs to go on the wall. In fact, why not redecorate to suit ?

Mhuni, I would have thought that you were more likely to spot a Piaggio Ape than any of us in the uk were. I can safely say I've never seen one in the flesh. fficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&q=piaggio%20ape&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi" rel="nofollow" class="outlink" target="blank">link

When comparing fields of view in relation to the foacl length we need to take into account that the "1.5x" or whatever equivalence is approximate and also that field of view is measured on the diagonal, not the width.

Slightly different format shapes could account for discrepances as well.

Then the markings on a lens are also only approximate. A "50mm" lens, for example, will be around 50mm, but could be 47mm or 52mm or anything.....
I didn't realise it was a diagonal measurement John.

The Oly being 4:3 rather than 3:2 of the Pentax would make a difference. Although I've had too many pints of Brains SA to do the maths at this present time.

It shouldn't be wider, 18mm with a crop factor of 1.5 is the eq of 27mm, whereas the olympus has a crop factor of 2, so is the eq of 28mm.
Yeah I knew they should be very similar, interesting that the pentax should in theory be slightly wider. Nevertheless, in my quick and dirty tests in my mate's kitchen the Oly seems to capture about 10% wider views. Specifically on my 18-55 while leaning against the sink I could fit a whole row of kitchen cupboards plus the bin into my view. On his camera it was the cupboards, bin, plus a doorway. Not very scientific, I realise but just illustrating that it wasn't a small difference.

My guess is the numbers aren't entirely accurate (either the crop factor numbers or the focal length numbers).
Were you comparing the image in the viewfinder or the downloaded one? Don't forget the K20D only has 95% coverage in the viewfinder.

K.
Always thinking that man !

Maybe greytop could help, coming from Oly, although I'm not sure if he used consumer zooms. Also Amin springs to mind, although I think his kit zoom is an L lens, which I'm not sure is a bona-fide demarcation or maybe a marketing ploy by Canon ?

The 50-135mm being a DA* lens would be considered a "pro" zoom I should imagine, rather than "consumer".

I think Mhuni is referring to lenses such as the 16-45 & 55-300.

I think focal lengths aren't represented that accurately alot of the time.
The Sigma 50mm I have is reportedly more like 46mm

The focus distance has a bearing on it also I remember reading somewhere, so maybe the 2 lenses/systems you compared will be closer when used at infinity ?
