The garden is in full bloom with columbines having freely self-seeded over the years and mixed to create a lot of varieties; here are a few:Comment Image

the trouble is now that all the 'Clever B-----s ' can do it all in PhotoShop !
For anything other than minor adjustments PS and other corrective software have limitations - stretching and squashing the pixels affects quality, zooming in shows loss of sharpness, and cropping is needed which can lose vital parts of the photo. Shift lenses used horizontally can also give a view angle of a subject which is otherwise not possible if the view is blocked for instance.

If I didn’t have a tilt/shift lens I would be interested.

This was always a very niche lens for Pentax and I'm amazed anyone spent what it cost, especially as it's slow. The 150-450mm would be far more flexible, is a zoom, apparently has great IQ and is suitable for FF.
Right, so what we need now is a FF teleconverter to give us the same or longer focal length, really it cannot be that difficult and there must surely be a demand.

It is now included in the discontinued lenses on the official website, although is still listed in stock at a couple of places if you have nearly 5 grand to spend!

In just a year it has gone up from 3 grand but the sheer weight and size put me off at the time.

I think the crop function is not just about reduced file size but also provides a very nice built in focal length “extender”

So shooting with a DA* 300mm yesterday it became clear that whilst the normal crop factor associated with the APS sensor results in an equivalent image size of 450mm Focal length ( ie.300mm x 1.5 ) the crop Function on the K3.3 extends that by a further 30%.

So the 35mm equivalent focal length becomes 585mm using a 300 telephoto.

The image is also very good, certainly as good as a HD teleconverter.
But doesn’t that just mean your are using a smaller area of the sensor which gives the same result as cropping in post processing? A teleconverter would use the whole sensor with a greater number of pixels.

That's great to hear DaronL, and you get to use the teleconverter on it so a double bonus.

There is a YouTube series called Photography Online I enjoy, made by a group of photographers on Skye and including one diehard DSLR and large format user. In the latest episode he compares his Canon DSLR with the latest mirrorless offering and the DSLR just pipped it for image quality so they asked for suggestions for other FF cameras to compare; I have suggested the K1 mk.II so we shall see how that goes.

For Canikon users the transition is less painful financially as their existing lenses can be used with an adapter but that is only a stopgap given that their DSLR lenses are being dropped out of production. A repeat then of their previous mount changes forcing new lens sales, a strategy to which Pentax is diametrically opposed but for the companies’ finances a compelling one.

It also occurs to me that a generation raised almost from birth using iPads and iPhones and more familiar with touchscreens than pens will naturally gravitate towards a familiar technology.

Why does Pentax not advertise their new camera? All I ever see are mentions in magazine news items which say it looks a great camera but that it is likely to be the last DSLR to be made as the world has moved on to mirrorless. In other words don’t buy it! The normally impartial Outdoor Photography did just that in its latest issue so I was moved to write and complain but I don’t suppose it will do any good. The only post production review I can find is by DPReview, filmed unamusingly in a dinosaur park. Having invested so much in this body surely Pentax should be making much more effort to promote it.

I am guessing these are from a while ago judging from the clothing and lack of face masks.

An interesting commission they look good. Does the camera have multi-auto white balance? I find on the K1 this is a good option for interiors with different lighting including incidental daylight.
