The Photography Show - did you actually BUY anything?

Thought I'd start a thread on the above to see what, if anything, tempted people to open their wallets and flash the cards or the cash.

For me, it was just a lightweight (ally version) Sirui tripod (T-005KX + C-10X ball head) for 90 from the Sirui stand, for travelling because it seems to support the K-30/18-135 quite well and folds up to a relatively small package. Nothing else apart from the alarming cost of parking (and in actually getting there & back - but got an average 45mpg @ 60mph average speed because it's been mapped and I was going a lot faster most of the time, out of my quite big Octavia diesel estate).

And you?
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

Had a coffee before I went into Hall 5 but took sandwiches and 2x Cokes (6 for 2x "meal deals" from Sainsburys) to eat in there! - but breakfast at the Harry Ramsden outlet at the M40 Warwick Welcome Break Services cost me another 11 odd (and it was far worse food than used to be the case with the old catering arrangements there!).

Come on Folks, surely someone else bought "something photographic"?

I got a lee filter kit with big stopper, an IR filter for my Sigma 10-20 and some Permajet A3+ paper...
Thought it was good show, I went on Saturday and Sunday. Watched a fair number of the presentations which were pretty good.

I even paid 8 for the fish and chips !!

Where did you park jeallen01? I always park at the station which is a flat fee of 5 for the day...

I parked in the East 1 park about 400yds from the Hall - don't know my way around the area, so don't know the best/cheapest places

We will be buying some things over the coming months and we went to see what ideas there were.

Photo books, albums, printing services, royalty free music and of course the 150-450mm lens. Loxley Colour had a good stand and even had a display of Harris Tweed albums. It merged perfectly with my Harris Tweed jacket - I think I must have disappeared for a moment as I walked past the display.
Best regards, John

When I asked about deals on lenses the Pentax people pointed me to the LCE stand but it was so heaving I couldn't get near. I was lucky to have a great chat with a Manfrotto ambassador - I think it must have been Victoria Hillman - with advice about a backpack but this developed into her specialism of macro photography of insects and reptiles which involves long treks in inhospitable places all over the world. Tempted by a photo printer at the show deals but the Canons are so huge I don't know where it would go. (I already have 2 copiers and an A1 plotter) Apart from a soggy sandwich the only things I bought despite an itchy credit card were equipment insurance and a copy of Outdoor Photography for 3.00!

i bought the Topaz collection at a reduced price since i have already purchased some of their software before. Their website is advertising the collection for $334.99 (about 224) and the show price is 149.99.

Was tempted by the Topaz collection but was a bit miffed that it didn't include the two new ones, Glow and Impression. Was then told that couldn't get glow anyway as they run out of CDs with no option for purchase online....

So I thought sod em !

I paid 8 to park at the station, because their "peak" time is anything up to 11am, and I had a ticket for Martin Parr at 11, so had to be there in time for that. He was excellent by the way.

I bought an IR filter from SRB for my *istDS, some magazines from Icon Publications and a print box from Nomad. I also visited the Disabled Photographers Club stand. Always worth a root through their secondhand offerings (it's a 100% photographic charity shop) I came away with a a couple of books and a manual for a P30.

Overall a much more pleasant experience than last year, thanks to the use of a larger hall.
