A lady congratulated me today on the size of my equipment! I said that’s something I don’t hear very often; she was referring to the DFA 70-200 f2.8 on my K1.

You have made me want to travel up to Northumberland, I have a couple of weeks off work in late Feb, so I might just take a few days out to go there.

You'll not regret it David.

I can recommend the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh.

Stub, looking at this another way you could probably buy the filter system for the difference in cost between a Pentax and the equivalent camera from another, but I think we are getting distracted from the point of this thread, which is Bill’s excellent work.

This weekend we are getting constant brief power cuts, Wester Power’s explanation is their HV supply is being tripped by.........a squirrel, or a bird, or a tree?! What!!! And my call to WP was cut off by yet another.

Thanks all for positive thoughts re these...

Rob, totally agree... Pentax has a huge advantage over many other brands in terms of number of shots it can take in Multiple Exposure mode... 2000 on the K1 vs 10 for the Canon 5DIII... the one thing they are short of currently is dark blend mode though (which Andy - AlfPics - got round in Photoshop - or equivalent - the other day to great effect with his excellent layered shot of the birds over the pier in the Gallery)... if they can sort this In Camera (and many other brands currently offer it) they'll have a significant competitive advantage in this field... fingers crossed...
Hi Bill, I was on a course with Valda Bailey who does amazing multi-exposures and she was just running through the capabilities of different cameras, some did up to ten, Sony you need a special app to do a couple, and so on, then she said “Rob’s Pentax does 2000!” You could have heard a pin drop. Smug looks from Canikon owners vanished. Dark blend mode is one she uses a lot and yes please Pentax bring it in - maybe even as a software update.

Even my K50 does 10 multi! I think the reason the K1 does so many is the capability for the interval setting, another feature I haven’t tried yet.

Rob, your totally wrong in your comment. I havent changed brands. Probably never will. I am a loyal Pentax user. Never having owned another brand. I have no desire to change brands,. But what I do want is for the brand I do support. Is to keep pace and offer a range.
My sincere apologies Stub, I must have got the wrong impression. As for the range, Pentax and Leica are the only brands offering three distinct formats with lenses to suit and you know which of those has the larger range. It is a relatively small company with a large field to cover. The range is good although there are a couple of gaps, but at least there aren’t any real crocks.

What point is being made here? The new Hasselblad X system has just 9 lenses, the other 12 lenses and no third party options. Leica TL has just 6 lenses and M system 25 lenses. At those prices you wouldn’t want more than three anyway, and none reach over 135mm. So, is the number of lenses available a reliable gauge of a manufacturer’s standing? If Pentax is to retain or grow its market share against the big rivals then I suspect it’s strategy is to offer something a bit different. And remember that other than Leica Pentax is the only company offering cameras and lenses in three formats: APS-C, FF and MF, which is a large field to cover with new products.

An interesting set, not many know that Pentax cameras have great potential in this sort of creative work, far more so than others, and maybe we don’t explore it enough (not you, obviously).
