If on the contrary said item sits on a shelf forlorn and gathering dust for x years, then it's a waste of money. I wonder! Is it need or want that tempts you? Some heart searching may be in order me thinks.
That's hardly convincing him is it

It will save a lot of weight when you want to travel light, it will look great sat on the shelf next to the 24-70mm, it is screw drive rather than SDM so less likely to go wrong, you will get that 5 second "new lens hit" as it arrives and you open the box and most importantly it will most certailnly make you a lot more attractive to the opposite sex.
In that respect I need all the help I can get - most convincing argument yet!

More like autumn here at the mo. March is certainly coming in like a lion.
Snowdrops, daffs and mahonia all prove it really is spring, and tbh I'd rather have this weather now than the warm of last week - that just wasn't normal.
I could have lived with not normal!

Where did spring go? A few days ago I was dozing in the garden with a glass of something, now it’s cold, wet and windy. Spent the afternoon putting an app on Gill’s phone so she can remotely connect with her car, it took much longer than it should because she can never remember her passwords nor her security questions so having tried everything and getting locked out I eventually managed to set new ones. It turns out that was my fault for not having saved them somewhere!

I currently have two zoom FF lenses which cover 35mm. Apart from the weight saving is it worth me getting this uprated prime? Will it be better in any way than the DFA 24-70mm f2.8 other than the one stop difference? I am tempted by the SRS special PU offer but do I need another lens? Please help me convince myself.

It’s more than possible that the exhibition arrangers are slow to populate the exhibitors’ list. These stands require considerable advance planning to fit the allocated space so it’s a fair bet that they have signed up. On the other hand wouldn’t it be nice if the news feed gave us plenty of advance notice which stand it will be?

It's a shame they don't exhibit at the upcoming Photographic Show at the NEC.
How do you know they are not? Last year they weren’t on the exhibitor list until the last minute but were there.

There is a postscript to this story; I maligned a local pro photographer’s results rather unfairly it appears. He is compiling a video of the event and called round to use a number of my photos as stills to incorporate, and it turns out he had been asked to send the BBC shots of the event as it happened. For this he used his iPhone and sent unprocessed results right away, not something he had done before. We got on well and chatted for ages about the stuff photographers love to talk about, so maybe something will come of it.

Back to topic - the new 11-18 lens has “a space specifically designed for holding a heating device to prevent condensation”. Can anyone shed light on this? And is it a unique feature?

Please name one...!!

As everyone here already knows I agree with Daroni.. Though he's far more eloquent. But he forgot to mention video quality... Which is years behind the competition.... But the stalwarts here will continue to defend the company by saying there's nothing so wrong. and they are cheaper than the competition...
Cannot help but rise to the bait - astrophotography, multiexposure, more exposure options, low light image quality, interval exposures, in other words when you actually get creative. But the issue I don’t understand is why you haven’t changed brands if you feel this? This thread is about new lenses which promise high quality so it is unfortunate that it gets hijacked in this way by irrelevances.
