Not wanting to hijack Mike-P’s Sigma post by extending the diversion, a few years ago my wife couldn’t believe I swapped the car for one with a level rear platform so our collie could manage it better. But it was true.

We have heard these beefs before, and whilst I admit to ignorance of camera design technology it appears that no one camera body can do everything better than anything else in every field. Leica are probably best at certain things but don’t have long lenses, Canon is heavily invested in wildlife and sports, Sony for video and so on. And most people here believe there are things that Pentax does best, but if there is a particular field you specialise in then you pick the most suitable system, not moan because you bought a 4x4 that’s not as quick as an Aston Martin.

I'm sure your images were of a very acceptable standard. Or even better...!! Rob.. But for some its a way of earning a living with mouths to feed..
I don’t do weddings or studio work, or any paid work of that kind, but if someone claims to be a professional (a much diminished term now from its true meaning) they should be better than a mere amateur for their money. If I was to do such work I would charge a proper commercial rate, not do it on the cheap.

Algi, that doesn’t sound right.

Not really looked in detail at the KP but what does it not offer that the K3 or successor does/will ?
No Infrared receiver for a start which is why I bought a K-1 that I've hardly used. It's easier to use the K-5 because I'm so used to it and know what results I'll get.

Nothing wrong with the K-1 and the tilt screen is great, but I'm not keen on learning how to use another camera.

Seriously? I went from a K50 and found the menu, operation and options very familiar, although rather more extensive of course.

My only concern would be this. Does their use of your photographs. Allow them to make their photographer redundant ?
I don’t know whether that have one. Another local photographer, a wedding pro, had some photos of the same event in another local paper and frankly they were not good - one was very crooked, another overexposed, etc. I think he was using a bridge camera and they looked like JPEGs straight out of the camera. Ordinarily I avoid doing what a pro should but in this case I was acting for a local allotment group and I can only think they submitted my photos for publicity and which I support for free.

Gwyn, would a re-boot help? It looks as if Pentax are still committed to APS-C so there are hopes for new/upgrade models soon, which could lead to good discounts on current ones. Alternatively SRS Microsystems have a couple of bodies on their eBay site which may be of interest, maybe open to offers.

I have just received a request from a local newspaper group to use some photos I took on Sunday, with the proviso that I will be credited. In my flush of excitement I immediately replied that would be fine, and then I saw on their website it is possible to buy photos from them and they retain the copyright, so I sent a follow-up email saying I am happy for them to proceed but I will retain copyright. No doubt they will act honourably but I am wondering what your thoughts are as to how I should have responded.

No. 1 for me, I love the muted colour and no.5 “prismatic” given the same treatment would be awesome. Fading colours more reflective of your introspective mood?

So when was this launched? I had the previous version which was slow and noisy to focus but produced good results.
