Work night out tonight... Pondering lens choice. Probably 15, 43 and 77. Starts off with a boat trip around Cork harbour for 2hrs, back to some grub then the team building / serious drinking begins

Main answer is that all 3 will function to some degree on your K-30

Yes, they are compatible with your K-30
FA will behave as a current lens with the exception that power zoom is not supported.
The Asahi will behave like a K or M series lens, you will need to use stop down metering. Thing is, is this a K135 f/2.5 or the Takumar 135 f/2.5?
The Sirius I don't know much about, does the aperture have an A symbol? if you you will get automated metering, if not then it will act as the Asahi.

Lately they have been making a lot of different bodies, but apart from the Q very little in the way of lenses.

I've used Pentax since the Spotmatic days and won't change now, but I'm surprised that any new buyers stay with them
Aha, understand now , please excuse my slowness today. You're being a bit harsh, I'm only a blowin to the Pentax fold, later 2008, but since then we've had the
DA*55
DA*60-250
DA17-70
DA18-135
DAL 35
DAL 50
DFA100WR
and the DA15 limited. Has to be said that I think we all hoped that under Hoya as one of the biggest glass manufacturers that new lens output would have shown a marked increase.

The two mainstays of FF are missing 28mm and 135mm.....
They could bring back the K Mount Takumars if they
still have the factory that made them

35mm was never very popular in the 135 film format
anyway.

It's unlikely that Pentax would bring out a camera and
have lenses available

With the K-5 gone they no longer have a top of the range
APS-C
There used to be the FA28 but I think it was regarded as being closer to 30 than 28. If that is the case I would think that Pentax would suggest using the 31 as their 28!
As regards the 135, the FA135 has both its fans and detractors, build would need refreshing along the lines of the DFA100WR I think. Perhaps too soft at f/2.8? and I've seen more than one complaint about fringing. Some will shout for the A*135 f/1.8, too big, bulky, and it has its own set of gremlins with QA, some adore it, some hate it. Somewhere in between would be the K135 f/2.5, imagine with DC motors and an alloy WR body

Don't quite understand the "It's unlikely that Pentax would bring out a camera and have lenses available" - 'not have lenses available' perhaps?

Yeah, its the big question, which way will Ricoh point Pentax in? A K-5S with enhanced AF and maybe a bigger & faster memory buffer? or the longed for FF that only a fraction of mob will purchase

It does seem curious that the FA35 appears all of a sudden after what 2 or 3 years? They also have the FA50 at a good price and all of the FA Limiteds in stock.
So if a FF35mm DSLR is magically announced the line up would currently be:

FA31 f/1.8
FA35 f/2.0
FA43 f/1.9
FA50 f/1.4
DA*55 f/1.4
FA77 f/1.8
DA*200 f/2.8
DA*300 f/4

DFA50 f/2.8 Macro
DFA100 f/2.8 Macro

+ some highly probable FF, DA(L)35 f/2.4 & DA(L)50 f/1.8 and also the DA*60-250 f/4

That makes 10 plus a few probables. They need a 24mm to complete the primes and really really need a couple of FF zooms. Rerun of the FA*s 28-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8? or would they be exorbitantly expensive to manufacture?

Just noticed, SRS have found a stash of FA35s! Pricy though, £619

I had written something on this article last week (Tuesday I think) and it turned out to be quite a rant, then I noticed that I had put it in the Lens section so I deleted it.
Anyway, I'm a week calmer now so...
Noisy lens - As Tony mentioned above that is his main gripe, however he should also have pointed out that
a: the K30 does support SDM and DC lenses
b: that the K30 does have a motor to drive a lens which I believe that some of its competitors do not (D5100 springs to mind) due to I suppose cost reasons and market placing.

And can someone tell me when AP stopped using a 100mm Macro as a baseline for resolution tests? The 18-55 while worthy in its own way is not exactly the sharpest of the bunch.

So if someone from Pentax UK is reading this, next time you pass out a camera for test purposes... include the DA18-55WR or DA18-135 DC WR, DA55-300, a fast prime, say the new DA50 f/1.8 and also the DFA100mm Macro.

I do wonder about AP though, take the main pic on the cover, how many EOS-M users will actually mount a 70-200 f/2.8, or should I ask, how many typical EOS-M users would actually know what a 70-200 f/2.8 is?

For any of the FA Limiteds, the term LBA does not apply , some might argue that they are required purchases for the discerning Pentax connoisseur.

the compliments for K-5 are all over the internet. i have been owning one of this for a couple of months and sold my K20D about a month after having my K-5. some my comments on K-5( you may disagree)

The improvement on focusing is massive; well control noise on high ISO, ISO3200 is totally usable.

However,

the image quality is not as good as K20D. i shoot raw nearly 100%, K20D maybe not good at ISO, but produce very smooth color transition, captures more details, great potential in raw. i think the sensor of K20d has deeper color depth, which has not been tested by any authority. when i process the K20d raw, i could recover the details about 2 EV, but it's probably 1 EV for K-5. i have a strong suspicion that the raw file of K-5 has been heavily processed, just like a pre-JPEG, very little potential for post-process.

Has anyone got similar experience?
Tend to agree with low ISO (sub 400) shots. Colours from the K20D in RAW just seem a bit richer / warmer. The K-5 is slightly colder, more digital. Even now I still think the K20D is a better landscape camera and it rarely clips highlights like the K-5 will do if you're not paying attention.
Overall though the K-5 blows the K20D away, faster, smaller, way better at available light photography.
