I have to agree with John Riley, at these focal lengths, for a test to have any meaning, they should be conducted with the use of a substantial tripod. Not that I am inferring you don't have steady hands.So which is which? Perhaps Terry you should wait before you buy your Canon to see what the new Pentax might be?
If the new Pentax is a full frame sensor, I'll be on the look-out for the glut of second-hand, cheapo lenses that will be coming on the market!

I've just bought a Pentax 52mm thread S25 close up lens off eBay. It's beautifully made and the results are pretty impressive. Don't underestimate the simple close up lens, although to be fair the Pentax one is a bit above the norm in terms of quality. Here I used it with the 18-55mm II kit lens at f11.
