Seems like an interesting option. Can I ask which card one should buy if you want to transmit straight to a windows 7 laptop when on location? What sort of range can be expected indoors and outdoors?

Thanks John. I know we can sharpen or soften in post process -indeed on jpeg the camera has sharpening levels which we can also vary.

My quandry is why would we need to. If the sensor is like a film and the image is focused perfectly on its surface then the result without digital manipulation must be as sharp as the lens quality will allow.

Hi all, Please could someone explain why its seems that digital photos are not as sharp as their film body equivalents? Seems to me that digital only has one lens to worry about whereas film also need an enlarger's lens to give large pics.

Am I missing something?

Hello, an amazing recovery! I wouldn't have the nerve to shoot a wedding and would no doubt get myself shot. Seriously good to see what can be recovered from what initially looks beyond hope.

I'm especially impressed with the shots you shared via the link which had the bright blue sky as the background. I struggle to get good shots in such situations so I can only think you have mastered the fill in flash or have found an excellent way of recovering in PP.

My problem looks to be that my Metz gun has developed a fault during the last 2 weeks. It worked fine on my KX, then with deteriorating results on the K5 and now just as bad on the KX.

The good folk of SRS have offered to have it checked by Metz.

I hope this sorts it..and meanwhile I can still enjoy the K5 and will owe Pentax a huge apology!

The one saving grace is that you see the problem on the camera's rear screen. At least we dont have to pay for ruined films.

I take note of John's comments and greatly respect the experiences of the professionals on here. However there is somewhere an issue that needs Pentax to address. I agree with the thoughts that why would anyone buy a Pentax gun or any other with so much automation only to use it in manual mode?

I hope Pentax are taking note of forum comments, the camera will be getting a tarnished reputation as whispers spread. I will be the first to praise them when a solution is found but right now I'm feeling like many on the other forum that the camera could have been released before it was ready.

Manual focus, manual exposure adjustment and manual flash adds up to the ultimate in creativity. I'd still keep my K5 and would hate to let it go back for checking. The images are the best I've ever had on digital and I'm still learning.

I have now run the Metz firmware upgrade and its made not one scrap of difference.

Has the K5 been released before it was ready?

I have no huge issue with working manually when using or bouncing flash however I do feel the "flagship" DSLR should be able to make a better job of automation than its is doing.

My results in green or P modes are far worse than shown above -I'd say 3 to 4 stops overexposure.

With my Metz 48 the flash isn't even picking up the zoom info from the lens. It works perfectly with the Kx and K10.

Are other Forum members not having any flash problems? Does anyone know if, as mentioned elsewhere, Pentax are working on a firmware fix?

For the benefit of members who are maybe still hovering about upgrading to the K5 please speak up if yours is working as it should.

I'm having similar results with my K5 and the Metz 48 AF1 gun. I'm having to work in manual mode (which is fine) except that with the Kx or K10 the process of P-TTL flash was totally seamless.

I've double checked that all settings are normal with no under/over exposure of the flash from either the gun's menu or the camera set up.

I haven't checked yet if the Metz is meant to work with the K5 however I'll be interested to see if any suggestions to help Daydreamjay might also help me.

I got one of the Neewer brand batteries as a back up to keep with my K5. Seems perfectly fine in use.

It seems like a good idea with that we all help one another find the best value and sharing experiences is a big part of that.

I bought my KX from Jacobs. It has a 2 year warranty -although the second year is a Jacobs add on to the minimum 12 months maker's warranty.

Worth asking them I would also say.
