When I had a problem a while ago, I found a program called 'Photorec' that that was able to recover everything on the card, including ones that a software crash appeared to have lost. It's a Linux program, mind you - see this page for more. It was quite easy to use - and a great relief!

If you use Windows, I expect you'll be able to find something similar.

Have just bought one of these for my K-5IIs from MyMemory. Seems a good price - actually even better, at £23.99, when I ordered it: sorry, just realised it's crept up! They throw in a microfibre cloth too (to polish the card case?)

Lots of space for me to try out some video recording, and fast transfer speeds. It came with a warning in the pack about using only in an SDXC compatible device and reader. Of course, this isn't a problem for recent Pentax cameras. My laptop SD slot and (4 year old) card reader also worked fine once I'd downloaded an update to read SDXC.

(Technical detail: I'm using versions of Linux on my machines, which needed the exFAT or exfat-utils software - just search the software centre, add it and use the card).

I've used several of the Integral 16GB SDHC Class 10 cards for a while now and found them very reliable.

Parcel arrived last Tuesday (28th), very well packed and camera, as you said, looking good as new. The manual, etc, were even sealed back up in their bags! Very busy week, so not much time to play with this, but I'm enjoying exploring this real step up from my K-x. Thanks, Papa_Lazarou!

This was some time ago, but in case anyone chances on this because of a similar issue, it turns out that:

My first AF360 was after all slightly faulty: although it worked fine on the camera, it didn't seem to funtion in wireless mode, at least not reliably. It took a visit to the nice people at Spectrum in London to nail this, as they kept testing it till we were sure.

I managed however to pick up a shop-soiled second AF360 at a Curry's clearance store, which worked properly, so the first one went back.

For a short while, though, I had 2 flashguns, and I found out that on the K-x it appears that with the internal flash you only get Mode 2 (built-in flash as control, external as main flash). However, with an external flash on the camera and another off-camera, you can chose to set the on-camera flash as master or control - ie Modes 1 or 2.

However, now I'm back to one flashgun, that's not much help to me - perhaps it will be to someone else.

Meanwhile, I'm discovering that there are still things to learn about flash, so thanks for some of the hints here and in the resit of this section of the forum.

Or of course you could go for the Pentax 17-70 f/4, which I've recently acquired. I think it's excellent, though it doesn't go really wide for landscapes.

I see Sigma are also now offering an 8-16mm zoom - at a price.

DA 17-70mm arrived this morning, very well packed and in immaculate condition.

I'm a school governor and have taken some publicity shots for the small primary school - it's mostly a very pleasurable activity. Another governor spent a day taking shots for our prospectus - I think he ended up with at least 50 - though if you're in a larger school with labs, lots of PE, etc, there's more to cover. I'm sure you'll aim to catch pupils and staff at work naturally, so you'll realise flash will be a distraction.

You've probably done this already, but check the school policy on photos of children - you'll want lots of happy/engrossed/thoughtful faces in your shots but some parents may have requested 'no publicity'. And I assume the school will have asked about your CRB check?

This looks great and, as an Android user, I would have been interested if I hadn't already bought a very cheap remote from eBay that does the basics (and without the need to make an IR dongle) - all for only 2.69, including postage. It took quite a while to arrive, mind.

It's a nice touch on your part to add an exposure calculator - that's something a dumb remote control can't do!

Sorry to be a grouch here, but I tried two Transcend 8GB class 10 cards in my K-x last year and both gave me problems. Fine most of the time, but then an image would fail to save properly, so I eventually gave up and got my money back. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but I didn't want to risk losing shots, so since then I've stuck to Inov8 cards and not had problems. So far....
