Android remote to shoot Pentax camera

I guess that most of you already heard about transforming your iPhone into a remote controler for DSLR. So here is the application to do the same with any android phone.
This can work with any Pentax DSLR using IR for remote control.

I used the ideas and thread started by piesforyou here

And as I couldn't find the application allowing to shoot my K-x I developed it for my HTC Desire

This application allows to do simple shot, long exposure shot (using the bulb mode) and makes it easier to calculate the time to have a correct exposition in bulb mode.

To use this application you need to have a IR dongle for your phone. It's easy to create some tutorial : here or here

So the first screen is to release the trigger a single time, using the exposition parameters of the camera. Easy press the "shoot" button :

The second sreen allows the long exposure using the bulb mode. The principle is simple : a signal is sent to open the shutter and a second signal after the choosen time to close it :

The third screen is used to calculate the correct exposure time in the bulb mode. To do so enter the paramteres given by your camera, using the biggest diaphragme aperture and the highest iso and select the aperture and iso you want to use for your final picture and press calculate.

Finaly the last screen is giving some small explanation on how to use but will probably change to some new feature (when I find some interesting one)...

If you are in Europe this might not work. Simply because of the sound limitation of your phone. To remove this limitation there are some applications on the market...

Any comment or recommendation considering this application is always welcome. And if you have any idea of some more features that could be usefull share it and I will see what I can do...

You can find the .apk here

This looks great and, as an Android user, I would have been interested if I hadn't already bought a very cheap remote from eBay that does the basics (and without the need to make an IR dongle) - all for only 2.69, including postage. It took quite a while to arrive, mind.

It's a nice touch on your part to add an exposure calculator - that's something a dumb remote control can't do!

If you have the 1 (one) phone model that it runs on, or a newer tablet - it requires Android 3.0.

Anvh that one won't work with Pentax, only some Canons for now.

It's still in beta the software.
They have said they will support Pentax as well so can not wait.

@ Prufrock : well I created this to make the B mode easier to control. But as you I use one of this cheap remote control from china.
Thanks for the comments anyway

@ Anvh : there are few advantages on the app that I propose. First it is available now Then it is a really light application and easy to use.
Finally it is for free !!!

Ideal now there is no space in the grip for the pentax remote. Great little app.

Cheers for this! I'm an Android user myself (Atrix CM7) and will try to have a go at this.

When I have time, I'll have to try it on my Sony tablet. That tablet already has an infra red emitter included in it.
