For basic editing (levels, curves, rotation, spot-healing, crop and resize) a recent CPU form either Intel of AMD with integrated GPU will suffice and be able to drive a 4K monitor at standard (i.e. non-gaming) refresh rates. On the other hand, if you plan to perform more complex edits, especially with RAW files, then you would be better investing in a machine with a discrete GPU. I say this because the performance of modern image-editing software derives from its ability to off-load more complex, 'AI'-driven' tasks from the CPU to the GPU. The price premium associated with the inclusion of a discrete GPU can be off-set to a large extent by purchasing used or refurbished. The following examples from ebay (which provides a buyer's guarantee in addition to any offered by the seller) all fall, more or less, within your budget range and would serve your needs well now and, I suspect for some time to come:

Note that the machines with the Quadro (professional) graphics cards would allow you to work in 10-bit, as opposed to 8-bit, colour were you to later to buy a 10-bit capable 2k or 4k monitor.

Of course, that still leaves the problem of a suitable monitor, which is one I am in a position to help with. Several years ago I splashed out on an EIZO FlexScan S2433W WUXGA (1920 x 1200) wide-screen monitor specifically for image editing. For this it proved eminently suitable and gave several years peerless service before I finally moved to a larger 2K screen, since when it has remained unused. It is in good condition (functionally and cosmetically) and has actually been used very little in relation to its projected life-span at the time of purchase. It can be yours , should you choose, for no more than the cost of shipping by your preferred carrier. More details and drivers here:

Number four, in particular floats my boat. Setting and composition aside, I'm a sucker for images featuring 'liquid gold' in any of its many forms

Do you actually see any daylight?
I suspect that were 'Spad' to do so, in common with the rest of his kind, even a brief exposure would have dire, and possibly terminal, consequences

Your family own Beresford Dale, or is it a namesake??????
It is the historical home of our great Beresford family link.

My understanding is, however, that the particular branch from which I am descended is, a 'bastard line' and hence my occasional use of the 'Barearseford' moniker

Any photograph that includes mention of my family's (Beresford) Dale deserves to be awarded the accolade of POTW in my humble, and totally unbiased, opinion

Seriously, though, whilst version 'C' has merit in abundance, 'A' does it for me by some margin.

If you had a K1 or anyone else's equivalent the results would be just as fantastic so you can be let off the bad words.
Seconded.

How much for the 1.4 please?
£28.00 inc p&p, Keith. Unlike the Tamron, the Teleplus does not come with the original packaging and paperwork (I know I have them stashed away somewhere in the house but, thus far, I have been unable to locate them). I will, however, include a rather nice zip-sided protective case that I've just discovered is a perfect fit.

PM me if you wish to proceed and I'll reply with my bank details.

Thank you all for your interest and comments, which served to help me reappraise my efforts and realise that the colour image best represents the work and my intent in photographing it as I did.

All that remains is for me to decide if I have the courage to solicit the sculptor's views on my interpretation of her work
