RHS Bridgewater - the broader view

Always worth a visit, whatever the season, but if you take a camera, be prepared for a lot of processing afterwards! I hope you have the patience (endurance?) to make it through to the third (and, IMO, best set)! All taken with K-3 + Sigma 17-70mm macro lens. All comments appreciated.

I did, I'm glad I did because I enjoyed them all, and I agree with you that the third set is the best (the one with the close-ups). Thanks for posting them all.

I must admit that when visiting gardens like these I do tend to gravitate towards close-ups rather than wider views because the end results seem to be more satisfactory. It's hard to pinpoint the reason, but it may have something to do with wider shots never quite conveying the scale and depth that I experienced when in the garden. You've done a good job of conveying depth in the garden shots via leading lines etc. but it still doesn't grab me quite like your nice close-ups with tastefully OOF backgrounds .

If you don't mind me asking.... did you use a polariser?

Yes, almost always have a filter, if only to protect the lens with something that's cheaper to replace! This was a HOYA Pro1 circular polariser.

Steve - I do agree with what you say. I always enjoy seeing your close-up garden photos. I think RHS Bridgewater has better broader views than some I have visited, but, as you say, close-ups with OOF backgrounds will always win the day!
