By the same token you could argue that some people with DSLRs should downgrade to a point and shoot.
I've know several where this would probably be a good move!

I'm sure FF will be better for some shots than APSC, but for most users I doubt it would be noticable. Quite oftem for macro a SMALLER sensor is actually an advantage as you get increased DOF.

Going further to MF would have more impact, but the FF bregade seem to ignore that. Is it just because a 645D & lenses is going to set them back £££ while wishing for a 35mm 'full frame' is free!

I don't know it, but from the website it looks highly promicing!
Some clubs can be very cliquey, with members hoarding tips that help them in the cometitions, but I suspect most more reasonable. This one claims to have workshops & mentoring, which suggests there'll be no secrecy.

I beleive it's how you click with the other members that makes the biggest difference to the value you get from a club, and the only way to find that out is to meet them.
Give it a go - trial membership is apparently £2 a week, so you won't have lost much.

Great set George, far exceeding the quality of any I got over the weekend.

Working in an interlaced mode wouldn't half the vertical resolution. Interlacing would give the ability to read one half of the lines while the other half are still recording the light input so that an average of multiple shots can be built up while minimising the chance of pulsed images. I'm not sure that interlacing would be required it depends on the read speed etc. of the sensor, but video is not available at full stills resolution so I assume some work arround would be needed.

It shouldn't be to difficult technically to have a mode that reads alternate lines from the sensor (similar to interlaced video) to build up a digital average. I feel it would be a nice creative feature. It could potentially allow good motion blur to be combined with shallow DOF...

From the silhouette I'm having a wild stab that it's a camera.
Given the silhouette's been removed from the banner this seems highly probable.
I suspect it's also related to the roumered anouncemnt for Oct 8th.
I look forward to hearing the details, but had better not attend my budget for the year was spent months ago!

I once had an interesting conversation with a friend over what the best mode to use for fast action sports was.

He argued Tv was the way forward because you want to select your shutter speed to freeze the action.

I argued for Av, because my sport of choice tends to take place indoors and I simply wanted the fastest shutter speed available while maintaining correct exposure.

In our own way and for our own purposes we were both right. What I'm trying to say is that which mode you choose is of secondary importance to knowing what they all do and what they offer so that you can make an informed choice.

I think what we're getting from this thread is an interesting (to me anyway) insight into different aspects of the various modes which are important to different members.
I'd prefer your approach if I was after the fastest possible speed (being aware that it might go outside the range avbailable to the shutter)

IMO Tv is ideal for things like propellor aircraft & panning, where you want motion blur, so you definitly don't want the fastest possible.
To go from ~1/50s to ~1/2000s can simply be a matter of switching from Tv to Av instead of endless turning of the control wheel.

I have my front wheel set top exposure compensation in Av & Tv modes, as there are 2 controls thats not practical in P mode set up as you describe (Aperture on one & speed on the other).

It's also possible to leave Tv set to 1/250, Av set to wide open, and use the mode dial to quickly switch between 3 different configurations (Tv, Av, & P).

Fantastic images as usual, but such a shame to hear of Steve Jewell's tragic death during the event.

Simon is right about the lack of a pedestrian footbridge, but there is perhaps a chance to cross the track between sessions, near the pit exit. The crossing at Touring car events is controlled by Marshalls under the direction of Race control, not sure if it's available at other meetings.

Whilst not as good as the new banking, the areas around the bridge are also quite reasonable, and can make a useful resting point if you have to walk in from the public parking.
