Hi Richard, looked like another bad earthquake ,hope everything is ok. Really useful thread , we are currently planning to be in NZ in November 2017 for a month or so , so anything to be aware of is really helpful.

I can only endorse what everyone has said here. I have been taking photos for quite a while and have changed brands, I started off years ago with a Pentax k 1000, used Olympus OM and used Canon for a long time. I've been using Pentax for the last five years now and don't regret it. The truth is that all the cameras will produce great images, but the defining factor is the person handling the camera. I own a K 50 , it is a good camera and will do everything and probably more you need it to do very well. I have returned recently from .iceland where it was hit with freezing rain, snow and coped with very cold temperatures perfectly.

If you are in a short distance from Hampshire I am happy to loan this to you for a day and go through the controls and operation.

For me it was Agfa instamatic , Zorki 4 rangefinder, practica mtl3 , Pentax k1000 with various lenses (stolen) me super and the Olympus OM 1 and OM 2

Enjoyed using every one but had a soft spot for the K1000 and Oly OM 1

Thanks all for the feedback. Trade off for me may well be the weight (tamron) v price (Pentax)..... Food for thought , but your feedback is really useful

If you own and have used this lens can you let me know your thoughts. I would usually have a 70-200 f2.8 in my kit bag back in canon days. I'm looking for a good mid range zoom and I like the Range this offers. I think it would complement my Pentax 300+ 1.4 converter and cover a wide range for sports and wildlife.

I take pictures of a variety of subjects.

The reason for the question is that I have heard it can be slow to focus. I have k5 mk2 and k50 , I can't believe an F 4 would be slow.

Any help would be appreciated before I part with cash.
