Don't know how it is with the K7 but if I set the K10D on you get an info screen with what the settings are, isn't simply possible to check that?

You now have so many buttons and option, it's hard sometimes.
Hi,
I leave my Info screen off unless i am switching the SR on/off.
It`s no big problem, It`s just annoying when it does happen! Before i put my Camera away after use, I have a habit of re-setting the Camera to 350th sec at F8 and set the Camera up so that if i need to take a quick shot straight from the bag. But occasionally i forget and that is usually the time when i actually need it!!!
With a Mechanical Camera you can see at a glance what the settings are, You don`t need to switch anything on. Just put it down to old age!!!

That's the dark frame, not how long it takes to write to the card

With the K20D that was a problem since you couldn't turn it off but you can with the K10D though.
How is that with the K7 BTW?

Sorry for going off topic though
Yes of course you are correct as usual! Thankfully the K7 does not appear to need a dark frame to reduce noise for long exposures as it is finished in the same time as a normal exposure, a real boon when you want to take shots in quick succession like a firework display or a Viking boat Burning.
But back to the topic, I need some sort of pre-use checklist to prevent me from doing silly things like leaving the timer on!
I never had problems like this with my film camera`s!!!

My usual mistake is to put the Camera away after a night shoot and leave the 2 sec timer on and the camera set to 30 seconds at f22 then try to take a grab shot straight from the bag the next day!( At least with the K7 i don`t have to wait another 30 second for the camera to write to the card like the K10D)

I used mount some of my transparencies in oval slide mounts, Gepe made a range of different shapes, The oval was very flattering to portraits.

Hi Luke

Go out and enjoy using your Pentax kit. It`s cracking stuff, as good a value as any other make. It`s a fickle world we live in with companies coming and going, who knows what the future will bring. Your kit will bring you hours of pleasure and moments of dissapointment. Go and experiment and once you have the feel of handling your K20D come off of the green mode and then you will see what can happen. Welcome, enjoy the world through a viewfinder.

Cedric
Well put, I second that!
My feeling is that Pentax will be around for a good while yet though! It still has an enviable reputation in some parts of the world even if it has taken a back seat in recent years in English speaking countries. It is an expensive business creating a new lens mount so even if Pentax Camera Division were to be Merged or taken over the mount would certainly live on. But that is extremely unlikely. Pentax have stated that the Full Frame DSLR market had caught them on the back foot and that they could not afford to develop a FF DSLR at the same time as a Medium Format Camera but i have no doubt that when they do produce one it will benefit from lessons learned from other makes earlier releases and it will be innovative and head turning. So as you can guess that i have no worries regarding the future of Pentax!
So just relax and enjoy your hobby!!!

It does show that these guys are getting twitchy, Apparently there is an on going review of the whole Medium Format scene which should be concluded on the 15th. Looks to me as if they are trying to close ranks!
Even Hasselblad are considering adding a Leica S2 type of Camera to their line up.

I am presuming one photo per person?
Actually Mike you can submit up to 3 with the largest dimension no bigger than 800-900 pixels, You have to register with Pentaxforums.com first and all of the details are there. I had every intention of getting some shots but the weather was decidedly unappealing and i did`nt fancy indoor shots so i decided to do some night photography instead. Though by the time it was becoming dusk my enthusiasm was waning and i stayed in playing with some HDR images instead. Still i could always change the date on my Camera and take some today!!!Hee Hee!!!

I think I have said elsewhere that another of my hobbies is flying radio controlled model aircraft. I believe K10 does as well. If I were to say to him "SMART" I would guess he would know what I am talking about. Basically these are a series of pre take-off checks that I run through. The first letter of each is added to the mnemonic to make an aide memoir, so Switch, Meter, Aerial, Rates, Trims becomes "SMART".

It goes through my mind that some sort of aide memoir like this might work when taking a photo, or am I the only one who occasionally gets back home to find that all the pictures I have taken have a strange colour cast because I have forgotten to set the WB for example?
Good idea, If it works for you then why not use it?, I still remember my Glider pre-flight checks from 1974!-CB SIT CB. Controls, Ballast, Straps, Instruments, Trim, Cable and Brakes. Though i have forgotten my powered Aircraft Pre flight checks from 1975!

Trouble is all this would go out of the window when you are rushing to get a grab shot and your Camera is in its bag!

Hi, I don`t have a K20D but if it is a non Autofocus Lens that you are using it may be that you need to go to the menu and find "Using Aperture Ring" and Change to permitted. if that does not work then go to AE-L with AF locked. When set to ON this will only allow the shutter to be fired when the camera senses that the subject is in focus, So if you want the shutter to fire at any focus position then set it to OFF.

Hope that helps.
