I've done some panoramas using a Gigapan (https://gigapan.com/gigapans/230093) with over 500 pictures, and never ran out of power on the battery in the camera. I carry an extra battery (or two) for security, so I'm wondering why you think you need an external power source.

You can use "catch in focus" with a manual focusing lens. When CAF is activated, you hold the shutter down while focusing, and the shutter will release as soon as the focus is confirmed.

With some practice and judicious use, the Pentax 10-17 fisheye can give superb scenery as well as distinct results in street photography. However, overuse of the fisheye effect can make somebody "sea sick".

You get what you need for the job you want to do. Sometime, a prime is better, but, for certain subject like "birding", nothing can touch a zoom. Idem for some sports. However, for street photography or portrait, prime lenses are generally better suited. So, think seriously about what you want to do with your next lens. It will drive your choice.

I use the Pentax 150-450 for birds in flight, but, with such a heavy long lens, I also use a monopod. I "suffer" from a condition called "essential tremor" (don't know why it's called "essential"), so I need every liittle thing that'll help stabilize the thing. Shake reduction is'nt worth much on such long focal length

Some Metz flashes are Pentax compatible, and have HSS. If you want to use HSS off camera, you can use Cactus V6 II. You need a module on the camera, and one for each flashes you use. Also, using Cactus module, you can use most Canon,Olympus, Nikon and al. on the Pentax cameras, and they will work flawlessly. I have four Cactus V6, and I use them with Pentax, Olympus and Nikon flashes and they work like magic.

I have four cactus V6, and they all work flawllesly with my 540. However, they work with my Sigma flashes, but I have to set the power level manually. Check the firmware on your Cactus. I bought mine (2 at a time) at different time, and they didn't work properly until I updated the firmware.

I read this week-end that Pentax is working on a new full frame with a twist. It would be "mirrorless", but the pass thru mirror would let light go to a primary sensor with around 45 meg. for highlights, but the reflected light would shine on a secondary 12 meg. sensor which would open up shadows. It would have a dynamic range greater than 20 stops.
