What's New?

Anyone aware of any rumours as to what might be coming down the line from Pentax in terms of a new camera? Will they go for mirrorless? Will they stick with APS-C? Are they interested in improving the autofocus capability? I have a K3II, which is very good but I feel it's lagging behind offerings from other manufacturers now.

PentaxRumors aren't giving anything away.....

There is the K3.3 by the way

Next development I reckon will be a K-1 Mk3 with a completely new sensor... I think we would've seen one now had there been a D860/D880 from Nikon but let's see what sensor the Nikon Z8 has and see if that makes its way to Pentax...
Z-1p, K-1, P50
F50 1.7. SMC-FAs 24, 35, 50 1.4, 85, 135. HD-FA15-30, DFA24-70, D-FA*70-200. The SMC-FA Limited Trinity.
Metz 45 CL-4, AF500FTZ. AF540FGZ.
Some Mamiya and some Nikon

I was disappointed with the spec of the K3.3. No built in GPS, no built in AstroTracer - both of which my K3.2 has. Also no articulated screen that is very useful for astro and macro photography. So the K3.3 is not what I'm looking for....

I read this week-end that Pentax is working on a new full frame with a twist. It would be "mirrorless", but the pass thru mirror would let light go to a primary sensor with around 45 meg. for highlights, but the reflected light would shine on a secondary 12 meg. sensor which would open up shadows. It would have a dynamic range greater than 20 stops.

No

Yes, as well as FF and MF

Yes, and have done so with K3 III and KP and K1-II

Hmmm... what other manufacturers offer a modern DSLR camera ?

I hope they stick with APS-C as the crop factor is very handy when it comes to wildlife. I haven't tried the K3.3, Kp or K1-2 but from what I've read both here and elsewhere the improvements over my K3-2 in AF and tracking are marginal? I don't feel particularly committed to DSLR any more and wouldn't make that a priority when choosing a K3-2 replacement.

An April Fool article it may have been, but I recall that Sony produced a family of DSLR style caneras with this sort of arrangement a while back. They had faster focussing, but worse low light performance than the equivalent DSLRs. The design concept should be more reliable due to having fewer moving parts.
