I am new to DSLR photography and my first was a K100D. Used it on a photographic safari in Kenya in 2007 and loved the results, which compared to some of the gallery shots are quite amatuerish. Bought the K200D in Novemeber for my next safari and it broke the day I was due to fly. Now with Pentax. Did manage to get another 200D body to take and dispite the dificult condtions on this trip for photograpy and pretty pleased with the results. Have posted some on the gallery. Was considering seling the 100D and repaired 200D to upgrade to the K-7. But having followed all the forums have now ordered a K20D which will be delivered any day.

Upgraded from a K110D the first DSLR to a K10 then this year to the K20D.

Now working on the lenses
In the collection and used regularly;
Pentax 12-24 F4, Pentax 17-70 F4 SDM.

I also have a Sigma 50mm macro and a 70-300mm APO macro, but looking to sell them for the Pentax 60-250 F4 SDM and may be a 50mm F1.4.

As for the K7 will wait and see. I would like higher dynamic range, better low light use and faster focus, these points have nearly lead me to jump to a N**** D700 but I keep hanging in there because of the Pentax kit I already have and to be different from most.
Jon dc I am looking to buy a macro lens. Can you send me a message teling me how much you want?

Hi Amin,

I was going to suggest bubbles and smoke to you! I like photo 2 myself.

Still working on the camera and lens! In a moment of dillusion I was thinking of upgraded to the K-7, but having read all the forums and come back to my senses have ordered a K20D. So that will just leave the macro lens and the ability! Watch thisspace but don't hold your breath.

Hi,

Thanks to all of you for responding. When I first saw the K-7 I did consider upgrading to that. However, I have been following all the forums about it and while I like the idea of the vide for the safaris I go on (sometimes it would be nice to capture the whole scene and the noises and if yu are with a group of lions with small cubs just eing introduced to the pride, you may not have time to switch to a video camera and back again before they all disappear again!), I have decided to go for the K20D, using my K100D and the repaired K200D towards its. Also hoping to invest in a macro lens. Not sure if I will risk Ebay again to buy though.

Thanks

Jeanette

[quote:3496ace15f="scottie"]£1199 at that price i'm definitely moving full time onto nikon when the K200D dies of death. I recently payed a good price for D300 and its a fantastic bit of kit. forgive my being presumptuous, but i cant see the K7 being as good as the D300, when you consider the cost of the D300 is the same or less depending on where you shop. and thats with the 2 prices hikes by nikon this year!
And I hope you like having to pay for Nikon Glass, it may be good, but so expensive.
Also the D300 is due for the chop with a newer version soon.
Actually go and have a look at the price of Nikon glass compared to Pentax, you might be shocked as a lot of the primes are cheaper on the Nikon 35mm F1.8 £190, 50mm f1.8 £110, 85mm f1.8 £330 and the 16-85 VR zoom probably the sharpest standard lens in the world a shade over £400 and of course the Tokina 16-50 and 50-135 are available in Nikon mount for about the same price as the Pentax. Not knocking Pentax but the days of cheap glass for any brand are over.
But what is forgotten is the image stabilisation, get into the longer lengths where it is required, the 70-200 VR £1549.[/quote]Sorry to butt in if I appear not to know what I am talking about as I am new to all this. However, I have been enquiring with the London Camera Exchange to buy my first macro lens and they have warned me that all the Pentax kit will be shotting up in price around July due to the $/£ exchange differences. They said Canon and Nikon kit had already taken the hit. A Pentax 105mm (I think it was)macro lens was quoted as being £499 now which they said was the same price as the Sigma, but in July they said the Pentax would increase to £699.

Like I said sorry if I am speaking out of turn.

Of course we are, we're not brand snobs. Well . . . not really . . . as long as it's Pentax.

PS: Did your colleague buy from Jessops by any chance?
Yes it was Jessops. How did you know? Or am I missing something!
If he/she had gone to Jessops, their fate was sealed. If they were going to buy anything, Jessops would only push Canon or Nikon or Sony . . . very hard. Pentax stopped supplying them with stock ages ago.

Even when Jessops did stock Pentax, it was never high on their sales agenda.
I told him about SRS and he asked where the nearest shop was. I explained that they were on the internet or "down south" and he said he doesn't trust internet shops! I did try.

Jessops need to change name to Canikony, they can't stock Pentax as they're not trusted!

Tell your friend to look at SRS for the best kit.
I was wondering why they never had any in!

As he copies everything I do I might keep that piece of information to myself! But as its my last day working for them tomorrow I might tell him as a leaving present!

Since owning my Pentax I have show work colleages some of my photos. This resulted i one of the rushing out and buying a DSLR. Unfortunately he bought a Nikon as it was cheap (and now wishes he hadn't!). I ten found this website and showed him how I had put some of my photos on and the feedback I received. He promptly searched for an equivalent Nikon User Forum. He found one but said he wasn't joining as nobody appeared to give any feedback on the photos.

Do you think it means that Pentax owners are friendlier than other camera make owners?

The new Pentax K? camera is being announced on 20th May but that doesn't mean that they will be available to purchase straight away.

If the broken K200D was a grey import Pentax may not agree to it's repair under warranty anyway.
Hi,

Pentax have agreed to do the repair under Warranty! If I can prove receipt and purchase details. I ca show the payment receipt rom my PayPal account and Bank Statement, but it only gives a partial description. I have contacted the seller for a duplicate receipt but no response yet.

If I do manage a free repair, I will sell it and my 100D and get either the 20D or maybe the new K-7. I am a littleconcerned that the K-7 maybetoo advanced for me though. The video is attractive though.
