Hi Andy,

Welcome. You are right about getting good advise from this forum. I have had loads. They are also a really fun group of people so expect loads of laughs.

I agree with everything said about SRS. However, I have been looking to upgrade my K200D and K100D and have been doing some searching. The cheapest price I have found is £499.95 for a K20D Body only from a company called Simply Electronics http://www.simplyelectronics.net/index.php which includes free delivery. I think it is only about £20 cheaper. But its £20 you could put towards the lens. You can order on line or by phone. I have ordered mine from them, but will still be looking at SRS for lens etc. They are worth a look.

Cheaper than SRS I know £20 is £20 but are these guys Pentax Pro Dealers? SRS are and will give a two year warranty on Pentax gear, well worth the extra £20

Welcome to the forum Andy
Not sure if they are Pentax Pro Dealers. But you do get a 1 year warranty. Like I said, they may be worth a look. I agree SRS are good.

Hi Gary and welcome,

I got a K200D in November 2008 for a forthcoming safari having already used the K100D (my first SLR or DSLR) on a safari in 2007. Ufortunately it broke the day I was flying to Tanzania Howover, I did manage to get a 200D body replacement at a good price before leaving for the airport I was very impressed with it - it was a little more complex than the 100D and given that I had had very little practise with it (not unusual for me! I tend to take brand new unpractised cameras with me on safari and then learn how to use them there! Not the best thing to do I know but then I'm a bit thick like that!) I was extremely pleased with the results exspecially of my birds in flight ones which you can see in my portfolio. I'm by far not a expert user so you should manage some fantastc results.

PentaxBabe, I see some bubbles coming soon .
Excellent

Get that macro lens and you will see the beauties you are going to be able to capture .
Can't wait to see some bubbles, like I told you, got to crown you the BubbleBabe . Well may be PentaxBubbleBabe, whichever sounds better
Hi Amin,

Watch this space then

I had better make sure all my camera batteries are charged up ready to use as they are all run down like me at the moment! I think PentaxBubbleBabe has a certain ring to it

Did you see my attempt at being creative? Not even in the same league as yours but you have managed to spur me on to try something new

Hi PentaxBabe,

Cheeper ways of doing macro are:-

extension tubes - see the shop on this site for cheep manual extension tubes
Basicaly a tube which moves the lens away from the camera allowing the lens to focus closer. The longer the tube the greater the magnification. But unless you buy expensive tubes which can stop down the lens when a picture is taken then you will need to use a lens with aperture control.
[bellows are essentially a varriable length extension tube but don't come under the heading cheep]

Reversing ring
Allows the lens to be mounted backwards and can give excellent magnification especially if a wide angle lens is reversed but again aperture control needs to be manual.
A reversing ring can be combined with extension tubes to give really good magnification.

dioptric adjustment lenses
These fit on the front of the lens just like a filter, can be purchased either as round screw on or as part of a square filter system such as Cokin system.
Unlike tubes or a reversing ring you retain full control of the lens so a lens without manual aperture can be used.

Any of the above will allow you to dabble in macro without the expense of a macro lens, then if you enjoy it can can spend serious money later
Thanks Bob,

I saw those items while I was searching. At least I know what they are for now! Will bear what you have said in mind when thinking of buying.

I have a Sigma 105 mm macro lens for sale for around £200. Reason for sale is because I have invested in a Sigma 180 macro. I am based nearby in Rotherham so you could come and inspect it if you wished. See Classified adds. Send PM if you are interested.
Thanks, I am definately interested and have sent you a PM.

I want to try macro photography but don't have a macro lens and have not taken any macro shots before. I have seen the Pentax smc DFA 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens available for £370 plus p&p. I know prices are about to go up, so given my lack of experience should I snap this up or go for a cheaper spec?

Thanks

I was wondering what experience people have had of local camera clubs? I know we have the Local Groups topic where people can suggest starting a group in their local area, however, I don't know if these actually get of the ground?

There is a camera club in Chesterfield and I was wondering if it would be worth joining? I don't really want to get involved in a group were all they are interested in is bragging about who has the best camera, being told that canon are the best cameras, or who is the better photographer. That's why a Group of other Pentax owners seems more appealing. I have looked at their website but am not sure f they seem friendly enough!

Thanks

J

Amin,

I mean't to add. When you get your website sorted and the orders flood in for your wonderul pictures, if you need an accountant to do your books, give me a call!
Pentaxbabe, are you into running? , if you are then I will sack my present accountant and hire you. We used to go running together when we started years ago, that's how we discuss our accounts, on the run, but now for the past few months he has flipped and comes up with excuses and doesn't join me any more. Keeps fit the body and the books, think about it and we will have a deal .

Oh by the way, its on usual runs like these ones that I cook up ideas for the bubbles and smoke images
Oh Dear Amin,

I would love to say that I enjoy running. Unfotrunately, I have had knee surgery 14 years ago (same injury Paul Gasgoine suffered). The repair has a 10 year life so I am well past that. Its a badminton/ski-ing injury and I used to love playing. However, in order to delay having a replacment knee op I have had to stop all impact sports. So I won't be able to join you on your runs. Sorry
