Hi Peekie;
I check what you said and flash fire when I short centre pin to ground (side contact). So whT could be wrong?
I found another flash unit some where deep in my bag. Trigger voltage is aound 55 volts. Is it safe to use? I tought i could check camera whether it really works with other unit.
Secondly how can I understand the polarity of second unit?
I would be very careful about trying the other flash you have found. 55 volts would be quite dangerous, I think (I have another flash which measures nearly 200 volts!) I must say I am puzzled by the lack of operation on the camera. Can I assume the pop-up flash works, yet the hot-shoe doesn't? I guess you have checked the various flash settings on the 4-way selector.

Hi Peekie;
I opened hotshoe base and everthing looks normal. No loose cable, no disconnection etc. I measured voltages from inside, they are exactly same. If there was something wrong with electrics, I wouldn't have measured voltages??? I tried to completely disassemble flash gun to see inside in details; however, I couldn't manage it.

Sounds to me like your flash is faulty, then, perhaps a disconnection in the hot-shoe base plate. Shorting with your voltmeter pins should be OK, practically anything metal (like a screwdriver or a coin) ought to makt the unit flash. But it is surprising, since you are able to detect a voltage on the pin. There are four small cross-head screws securing the shoe to the body of the flash, but if you remove these be careful as there are small springs inside which give pressure to the contacts.

I have been using a Miranda 700CD with my K-x for some time now without problems. I get 8.5v. on pin 1 and 11.9v on pin 2, so these are close to your figures and it appears the unit is working OK. However, unlike you I do get a flash when shorting 2 to the centre, so perhaps that is where your problem is?

Pentaxophile - yes, that's the one.
Thoughton - will check out your Flickr later (it's blocked from work).
Seems I might have to hunt down a PK adapter then, I doubt I'll use the lens that much (I already have a 55-300 DA) but I'd like to keep using it a bit if I can...not worth selling and I don't like to just keep it in a cupboard.....
Seriously, the Tamron works fine on my K-x if a bit heavy - but very robust

Assuming they are the correct voltage and polarity then there shouldn't be a problem other than the fact that the plug on the camera where the external power supply connects is often unique.

Hi Peekie;
Actually, i do not have any other body to try it on and only flash I have is older flash I mentioned above. Actually, I used that older unit with mt fujifilm S9600 before I buy Kx. It did not fry digital camera but I am still concerned about using it on Kx.
