I would possibly go for one of the low end Canon machines (iP4300 or iP5300 - I only want a 4 separate ink machine) but Canon drivers only provide for the four basic print sizes - A4, 6X4, 5X7 and letter.
Both Epson and HP allow user defined sizes across the range, but they do not have a machine that otherwise fits my requirements - either too many inks or multi colour cartridges/
So, does anybody know of a generic printer driver/software (a printer version of Vuscan perhaps) that will over-ride, or replace, the Canon drivers?

Apparently the battery is an NP 400, and can be had for £6.99.
One of the reasons for getting the istD was that I could swap batteries and charger with my Dimage 7Hi which I could not have done if I had got the Minolta DSLR at the time. (the 7Hi is now dead BTW hence the A2 )
A few more brownie points and I might arrange a meeting with the chancellor (SWMBO)

"Fandled" - Is that an amalgam of Handled and Fondled? Very much what a lot of us are desperately waiting to do to a K10D...

All in all a bit of a pathetic launch, Pentax should have had much more stock available for pre-Christmas sales.
Still, maybe soon (where have I heard that before) they will be on general release - ie if you want one you will be able to get one without waiting in a queue. I want to actuallt see one and handle one before I buy, or at least read a few reviews from those who have fandled one

Still, I will lose no sleep if Canon get knocked off their perch, and I liked Minolta in its day.

Just got this weeks AP mag with a comparison of the Sony Alpha and Canon 400D
Sony gets 90% whilst Canon gets 84%. Given that almost any old trash will get at least 80% in Magazine reciews and (historically) only miracles ever seem to warrant 90% this represents a sound thrashing for Canon.
Which brings me back to Pentax. Reading between the lines, the Pentax K10D is already ahead of the Sony and it has not been released yet.
So the new Pentax is potentially king of the pack! ('though I will believe it when I see it.)

Would I be right, therefore, in saying that leading curtain, at a slow shutter speed, will leave a trail going "into the future"?
Would I also be right in saying that if the shutter speed is set at flash sync speed, whatever that may be for a particular camera, there will be no trail either forward or backward?

Thanks for that, particularly the reference to Panoramic 210 X 594mm as that is what I am after. Pity it does not do edge-to-edge at that size, but I am not sure the other makes do in their lower end machines.
Having owned Canon printers, camertas, scanners, fax machines, and photo-copiers over the years, I agree the only thing I would get is a printer from them. A success of branding and techie thinking over imagination I think, but for printers it seems to work.
I must also look at the iP5300 - I think that might also fit the bill, but it might be short of the extra black cartidge.
One other question - what is it like for black and white prints? Can it be fitted with the appropriate grey inks?
