I missed the fact that the K-x takes AA batteries, but surprisingly that leaves it still lighter than the K-r so there must be something extra in the slightly larger body, or is it all down to the larger screen and the illumination of the AF points.

Still looking. If in doubt I have got a few months to decide.

Many thanks, to you all. I have to say I have never been let down on thias site. Even the grumpy folk are usually well worth listening to.

I don't take a "couple more lenses in the bag" unless I am going in the car - just a Tamron 18-200mm zoom. The all-up weight of the K10 is around 1235 gms. I calculate the equivalent all up weight of the K-x or K-r is around 1030 gms - a reduction of almost 20%

I still have the ist-D with a comparable weight of 1185 gms - not much lighter but considerably less in volume which makes a difference probably more so than the weight. Trouble is it takes 4 AA batteries which is why the K-r and Kx are so much lighter still. It is time to dig it out of the store room and try it out again for size.

I note that SRS have a S/H K-x for £299. Is there really any significant difference between the two?

Now it off to try and find out a bit more about the alleged mirrorless Pentax.

Cheers

That would be interesting. I thought Samsung used the Pentax mount, but on their mirrorless cameras they use their own mount which is a shame because they same considerable weight.

Thanks Alan.

Which leads to the next question - where can I get one body only?

Everyoneseems to sell a kit only and I already have enough lenses to cover all my needs.

It's a while since I last posted on this site - about 2 1/2 years by my reckoning. The truth is I sort of lost interest in photography for a number of reasons amongst which was the weight and bulk of my K10D. After lugging it around Canada for three weeks and around New Zealand for four weeks, I realised there was no fun in it any more.

Now I am planning a trip back to New Zealand and I am looking for a suitable "lightweight" SLR to take. I have been looking at the Lumix four-thirds system, but with a few Pentax fitting lenses in my collection I reckon I am really restricted to staying with Pentax.

Which brings me to the question of the Kr and Kx models. Not exectly lightweight, but almost the same as my old istD.

Has anyone had any experience of these cameras? How would they compare performance wise with the istD?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Regards

Mine is only a cheap system from a computer market, I bought it with the printer, the only link I can find to the same manufacturer is here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Signal-Inkjet-Supplies_CIS-Systems_W0QQfsubZ6

If you want something thats a bit more up-market I hear the Perma-Jet system is very good, but you'd have to check out its compatability with any given printer.

Hope this helps.
£44 inc p&p - sounds a steal - better than £100/£200 upwards for Lyson/Permajet even assuming they have one for the R360, although I suspect that they are pretty interchangeable.

Thanks for the pointer - something else for the wish list

I've done a bit of panoramic printing and was extremely careful to make sure the paper size was correctly selected each and every time, even when doing one print straight after another, I have had my Epson R300 reset to the default A4 after finishing a print, if this is whats happened in your case it would explain the half picture.
Did the printer finish half of it then churn the entire piece of paper out? if so it sounds like you printer thought it was printing on A4.
Answering the second point first "yes" then when I put another piece of paper in it finished the print so maybe the printer's brains got twisted because :-
answering the first point, the print setup screen was definitely set to 210X594. I am more than capable of screwing it up once, but not four times - three of them in trouble shooting mode.

I suspect that the problem lies in the USB server - I have read that these can be very problematic and users should confirm that the printer is fully supported by the server. In my case the Epson 360 is not on the list, but since the server was a xmas present and seems to work perfectly (well almost) in most other circumstances, it just about rates "fit for purpose" so I have put up with its idiosyncracies.

Next time I will try connecting the printer direct to the PC. Whenever that may be, I will post the results

Sorry, forgot....
As for longevity, I use Signal inks in a continous system on the R300, they go down onto Epson photo glossy a treat and on the cheapo panoramic paper a print lasted 18months in direct sunlight before starting to fade.
What sort of system are you using? I like the idea but have been put off in case it is not comaptible with the next printer I might buy.

I'm sorry I cann't help with your specific printing problem, but with regard to finding a supply of the size of paper you require have you considered buying a roll of paper and cutting off the length you require?
Good luck
Bob
The simple answer is "no" I missed that one, but it sure makes more sense than trying to cut up A2 - 210mm is a lot easier than 274mm - and provides greater flexibility.

Thanks for pointing that out. Funny thing is I looked at DABS for the paper and almost bought a pack of A2. The simplest ideas are always the best

Thanks Hyram

It is really a technical issue I suppose, and perhaps better directed towards a Computer forum, although I know we have a few computer experts on this site and I thought perhaps someone has already been here.

I will try unplugging the USB Server (though that will reduce functionality as it serves 4 PCs)and updating drivers etc. If that does not work then I will settle for 1cm less in length on the Canon......

.......Unless anyone knows better

I wonder if anyone does panoramic printing

I have been trying to print off some panoramic images using Epson Photo Glossy Panoramic paper (210mm X 594mm)

Using my Epson R360, the first one printed off OK, but the second stopped half way through (at about the 297mm mark). I tried again and it stopped again, so I turned everything off (and I mean everything), rebooted and tried again. Success, so before I printed the third image, I turned everything off again. Unfortuneately the trick did not work second time round and it stalled half way through.

So I tried my Canon i865 printer which, according to the custom size screen supports this size of paper. When I entered 594mm it said it was not supported but by trial and error the max size was 584mm

Has anyone had similar problems? Any help or advice would be appreciated. The only thing I can think of as far as the Epson is concerned is that the printer is run through a USB print server.

On a related topic, does anyone have a supplier for Epson Photo Glossy Panoramic paper (210mm X 594mm). Buyepson.com list it amongst their wares, but then say it is not available through their site I have surfed the net to no avail. Perhaps it is not available anymore - I guess the demand was not that high. If not , I will have to get A2 and cut it half - something I would rather avoid if possible
