Thanks for the advice, looking forward to the weekend with renewed enthusiasm, now I've seen the error of my ways

I do confess this maybe be down to me as I do have the metering set to spot and I must admit I was unaware this would require a different technique. Sorry I'm a bit green with digital camera settings and techniques at the moment, hence joining the forum to help improve my understanding. Which setting would be advisable for general photography with a wide variety of subjects?

I'm rather frustrated with the eractic expose of my K200D, they are either heavily underexposed or overexposed with me constantly in Photoshop to correct them. The only time it seems to give consistent results is when I use a manual lens with manual exposure. I did change the brightness and contrast to +1 in the function menu, but if anything it appears to be worse. Has anybody any ideas as to the cause or maybe camera settings which can be changed to improve things.

I graduated from compacts to DSLR last year and remembering my old film days I wanted to try manual again so I invested the princely sum of £15 in the above lens, to see if I could make a go of it. I actually quite like this lens but there doesn't seem to be many reviews out there for me to compare. Is it any good or am deluding myself? Also noticed the 135mm appearing on fleabay and was wondering the same.

I would just like to put my two pence worth in, I picked up a Pentax M 40-80mm 2.8f Macro at a very reasonable £30 and up till now I've been impressed with it, if you like manual of course. I initially thought macro photography would be the be all and end all but my enthusiasim for this particular discipline has somewhat waned over time, so I'm glad I didn't invest too much in a lense, just food for thought.

I don't know how many of you upload to the above or have visited the site, but I like to browse the gallery because I generally believe there is some excellent work exhibited. Unfortunately what I've knoticed of late is the distinct lack of votes the photographs are receiving. Now this maybe because my tastes are wildly different from everybody else and I could'nt spot a good picture even if it punched me in the face or it could be the sheer volume of work which is uploaded so the pictures are constantly moving further down and being missed with Joe public probably only viewing the first few pages.

Thanks for your input, I think maybe I'll switch over to manual focus as John has suggested and just keep plugging away until my hit rate improves.

Hi Noddy what camera are you using?
I think your technique sounds fine but there's no mention of continuous shooting or continuous auto focus.
Sorry forgot all about the camera, I'm using the K200D with a Tamron 70-300mm LD Di. I only take single shots, I must admit I've never thought of using continuous shooting and as to using continuous auto focus I've had dire results with that so I just keep the shutter half depressed so it won't re-focus as I'm panning. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanation, that would account for my widely different exposures. When photographing static objects the exposure would normally be fine but when photographing motosport at my local circuit (Mallory Park)this in when the problems arose. Multi-segment it is then, should'nt be long before my work is on the cover of Motosport
Thanks again for the help and info.
