Ajbets - I'm in Surrey too and I just bought the old sigma 10-20. If you want to meet up you're welcome to have a play with it to see what you think

Yeah, though you still get convergence on straights though even if it's level in both the x and z axis... it's hell with things like pillars - hence I got the aspherical sigma 10-20. I'm sure I'm just being incompetent and not using it on subjects suitable for it - round curvey subjects like this

Super composition Roy - I have one of these and honestly I'm at a compete loss how to get the best out of it because I find the bendy straights too annoying.

Not sure if she uses a quill - when I used one for a bit I found it a pain because the nib isn't strong (and it's scratchy) and you have to keep dipping the bloody thing in the bottle - uneven ink flow yuck.

Depth of field might be an issue if you're adding objects like that especially if the quill is in someone's hand upright.

Funny, that observation about than name being derogatory was my reaction too. Ah well, good luck to him.

Ack, sorry to differ with the first responses. Yes the shots are ok of cards, but I don't think they do justice to the calligraphy. For example the first and third I can barely see the words and the second needs more contrast/sharpness(?). The 4th is fine although again I'd say get in closer.

Calligraphy is an incredibly beautiful, patient & skilled craft - I used to do a lot of it when I was younger. I'm surprised actually how badly calligraphy is generally photographed! - I went for a look around the web to give you some concrete examples of what calligraphy photography impresses me but there are very few. http://www.quillskill.com/ homepage has the sort of impact I'd want to see, but I'm struggling to find others.

Not made by Pentax - made by hand by some company called OSU! The Dutch article link posted at DPR claims only 100 are available, about £25.

If I could I'd order one - for making people smile I think they're genius

Yeah - but I do wish I had a bit more sky in the original, then I could have done that. Also this was the fisheye and the CA is just horrendous - I hope to order that new sigma 8-16 when and if it ever arrives and when and if the bank gives me another mortgage

Ah well, there's always this year's summer hols to get a better perspective - although I am down there for a week's break over easter. Doubt I'll get to here again though unless there is some interesting weather around that merits it =)

Cornwell is legend for stuff like this, there are stones all over the place. Fun fun fun

Yes Berg, you're quite right - the problem I often get is that the image becomes so wide and thin!

Plz, no posted re-edits... thanks

This is a burial mound that was being constructed when the pharaohs were still around!
