If you have the telephoto end covered then it's the Sigma 10-20mm in my book. It's hardly off my camera since I got mine. Mountains, wide angle, easy decision.

Kodak Instamatic, Kawasaki Ninja.
I am in no way trying to say that a Kodak Instamatic is an awful camera.

I always use mine with manual focus on my K110D super as the auto focus seems to be confused. For most shots setting the focus just before infinity gives great results, unless you are shooting something really close. I try to use F8 to F11.

Some of Turners paintings are scenes in "bad" light and the mood is superb. It is a challenge to us all to capture a landscape in those conditions and I haven't managed it yet to my satisfaction, but I keep trying. But on a dull day I won't take fluffy waterfalls 'cos I hate them.
Water and sun for me.

ikillrocknroll is right when mentioning the conversion factor from 35mm to digital. If you are happy with a 24-70mm range, then the 16-45mm is the ideal choice, and forget the kit lens. If you want wider than that then it gets trickier and mor expensive.
