Chirpy, that is beautiful. The colour rendition is perfect and the resolution is so high, the contrast is perfect between the feathers.
And I wouldn't stress about the trailing leg, I didnt notice until I re-read your description and looked for it. And the tail isnt that important really.

Fantastic colour and definition.
I would not worry about the missing tail or trailing foot.

The lighting's brought out the plumage beautifully, and it looks nicely detailed. In an ideal world the background could be less busy, but it's not an ideal world, is it?
Nice shot.

Thanks all. With the low light and the tight DOF it's tricky balancing framing and focus in this little clearing. I tend to spot focus on the eyes and reframe the shot, but with him moving at the same time I've got plenty of OOF pictures (esp. the eyes) than in focus ones.
Does anyone think using selective focus points on moving wildlife would work better instead of using the focus/reframe technique?
I've not played much with the selective focus thingy.

C & C welcome - I know I clipped the tail and there's blur on the trailing foot, but he was actually a little too close to frame just right
