That illustrates clearly how Pentax ergonomics are so good. If a future K- DSLR is given a touch screen, it must be only as an option that can be switched off, or it would be doubtful that many current users would want to upgrade.

It's one of the things I love about the K10 that the buttons all fall right where I want them, and it's the large number of physical buttons that'll make me go for the K-5II over the K-50 when I eventually come to upgrade. I think Pentax/Ricoh know enough about ergonomics to be able to figure that out though.

DA doesn't necessarily mean a lens doesn't have full frame coverage, the DA Telezooms are more or less full frame throughout their ranges. I believe the DA* 200 and 300 are both full frame coverage lenses, and I'd be stunned if the 560 isn't.

I have never managed to get one of those in flight, AF or MF! Well done!

If I understand correctly, the K30s expanded AF feature allows the subject to stray from the selected focus point onto an adjacent one briefly without getting all excited.

So if you're tracking the little guy in the shot above on centre focus point mode, and you slip a bit so he's not on the centre point anymore but the top left point picks him up, the camera wont imediately try to re-focus on the background but will wait and see if you re-centre the original subject.

half the time with my K10D I operate the buttons by touch without taking the camera away from my face. That would be impossible with a touch screen.

I believe I could put up with a camera HAVING a touch screen, but it must not be used for controls which I want to use while shooting.

On my PC I am violently against touch screens. I've spent YEARs trying to educate people to keep their mucky fingers away from my screen!

compared to my current camera (in my case a K10D), or the current Pentax range?

compared to my K10D, it's lower noise followed closely by higher ISO.

compared to the current range, for me it's dynamic range.

For me, pixel count has been high enough since the *istD

for me the only one on that list which even comes close as a Photoshop replacement is GIMP. There are one or two which I haven't used though.

Paint.NET for example is Paint with knobs on, it's excellent as a replacement for the standard windows app which gives a little bit more power for editing screenshots and the like, but if it replaces Photoshop for you then you never actually USED photoshop and should have saved your money!

Inkscape is an interesting inclusion. I love that piece of software. I don't know of anything else which can do what it does, free or not. However, it's a totally different type of software from Photoshop, I wouldn't even think about loading a photograph in Inkscape.

Oh yes, I get that a lot. Sometimes it peeves me off, most often I just ignore it. And then there are times when you get some elitist condescending people talking about their gear.

In a lot of occasions I've never seen their photos though.
Those in my experience are likely to be the ones who have absolutely no clue how to actually take a photograph with their shiney equipment. As a consequence they usually have the wrong lens for the job in hand or at least no idea how to use it.

I find their bluff and bluster tends to go away fairly quickly if you just quietly take your photographs and make sure the screen is (accidentally of course) visible to them as you review your handywork.

As a pleasant side effect of being a bit on the small side, Pentax tends not to attract many of the "all the gear, no idea" types, so even the less gifted of us can generally outshoot the average condescending Canikon user.

after a very quick look, I can't see anything tying those sites together as such. They are both using extensions to a framework called jQuery to produce the pretty effects, which is probably why the functionallity looks similar to you.

The extension being used by the first one is free to use and available here
http://www.no-margin-for-errors.com/projects/prettyPhoto-jquery-lightbox-clone/

so if your colleague has knowledge of Javascript/HTML and plans to set the site up themselves, they should be able to achieve something similar with some work.
