I played with Remote Assistant once with my DL2 and it seemed to do this just fine. Only played with it mind so don't know how well it works in anger.

of course that is one potentially important advantage of the IR remote Chris, well pointed out. You don't have to crack the weather sealing on the sealed bodies to use the IR remote. The seal on the little door is round the outside so with the door open the K10D's sealing is compromised.

Generally when I use a remote release I am actually still at the camera looking through the viewfinder, so I like the half press to engage the meter which you don't get with the IR remote.

I always use a wired release in preference to a wireless one. They are more reliable, and you still get the two stage shutter release so you can engage the meter without tripping the shutter.

I would only use the wireless IR remote if the cable of the wired release was going to cause a major problem.

I have seen that they allso use vacuum coating in which the coating is vaporised and forms a thin layer on the glass.
There are different techniques to apply coatings. The one you mention is "new" to me, I haven't seen them doing it that way.
that's the way I know of it being done too, the maths of optical coatings is really quite amazing. The first time it was explained to me I looked at it and went "yes, but surely that doesn't actually WORK in the real world?"

well clearly you're going to need a gold LX to go with them anyway, so you might as well try and find one with the gloves

7dayshop have got the filter holders for £5.50 and rings for £6, so not too pricey even if you buy an extra holder to butcher.

I am looking for advice on a decent macro lens.
Should I be looking at the Tamron 90mm, Sigma 105mm or the Pentax 100mm?
Or is there a better alternative (not tubes as I really want it for close up out and about).

Also, I have a Tamron 1.4X teleconverter, how would this work (if at all) with a macro lens.

Thanks.
can't go wrong with any of the lenses mentioned. In theory the Tamron converter might be happier with a Tamron lens, in practice who knows if the difference would be noticable.

Money no object, the Pentax full time manual focus makes it the winner for me, but I don't think that would convince me to spend the extra, and indeed I'm only guessing that the other two don't have something similar.

I am not clear what is happening here, do you think you could post a screen shot so we can see what you mean?

If you are using Windows, you can copy the screen to the clip board by pressing "print screen", then paste it into GIMP or Paint and save as an image.

looks good Chris, very nice.

I note the 55-300 is listed as "in stock", does that mean pre-orders are winging their way out?
