it will be interesting to see how the Pentax 300mm performs with the K10D. I have exposure problems with my shorter pre-A lenses, but both of my 300mm primes (both Tamron, one F5.6, one F2. meter more or less correctly.

my bet is the radio trigger is introducing a slight delay before the flash actually fires. The Pentax flashes probably respond faster and in any event the whole system has been designed with them in mind so any delay would have been accounted for.

It's even possible (although seems less likely) that the flash you're using is actually faster than the Pentax ones and is going off before the shutter fully opens.

jump in fast and get a K10D before they all go!

for the money there is no better SLR on the market, from any manufacturer.

With the greatest respect, Mongoose, I beg to differ.

Go through your best pics, and tell me how many were made with bad light. Then good light.

No contest.

Obviously I need to clarify what I meant.

Clearly you can't expect to go out on a cloudy day and take sprawling landscapes, you'll just end up with dull colours and uninteresting skys. But the same light which is a dead loss for landscapes gives lovely soft even lighting for macros. This is just one example, but I firmly believe there is no light condition where you can't take a decent photo. The challenge is to figure out what that photo needs to be of.

There is no bad light, only the wrong subject.

If you're going out to shoot a specific subject, and the light is wrong, you are basically stuffed. On the other hand, if you are just going out to take photos then you just need to pick a different subject.

Edit: mmm should have read the whole thread before replying really

much as it's a little self defeating for me to say this (I would love an AF 50mm), I'd keep them both unless you really need the money.

AF 50mm lenses in good condition only seem to go up in value, and I have never yet sold a good lens and not regretted it later.

My KA one will be on ebay because I'd rather market forces set the price. I know what I'd be happy with, but I suspect it may make more than that, and I have an expensive lens to pay for! I just don't think I'd have the gall to ask what it might make.

Dan
understandable, especially with the prices some of them have been fetching recently. Drop us a heads up when you put it on though

I also only have the K adaptor, the KA is a bit hard to find and tends to be expensive. One day I will get one.....

Still the K adaptor is quite useable until you can get the KA.

yup, Phil is right, I use two Adaptall SP lenses (90mm macro and 300 F2. with my K10D and they work very nicely.

one thing to note is that you will need to set the focal length manually if you want to use SR. This is fine with primes as long as you remember to do it, but with zooms it's a pain.

I like to make it clear to people in these situations that, while I am willing to do what I can, I am not a pro photographer and people are not my subject of choice as an amateur.

With the bar set thus people are generally pleased with the result, they aren't expecting the world. I don't know your level of expertise, but since you are posting this I'm guessing you are no pro either, some management of their expectations will do wonders.

good luck
