Thanks guys for the input. Chris I am looking for a lens I can stick on my camera and have just about as much coverd as possible I just like to shoot what catches my eye. Also it would be nice just to carry the one lens to lighten the load.
then you can't do any better than the Tamron 18-250/Pentax DA 18-250 (same lens, different badge).

It's the best of the super zooms. It will never equal a good zoom pair like 16-45 + 55-300, but if all you want is maximum versitility from one lens it has no equal.

I love the way they look when they are hopping, just staring intently at their destination, wings folded, almost commanding the next perch to catch them.

very nice shots.

Clarky you really do give the rest of us macro amateurs something to aim at!

I think you should send your expensive lenses to me for safe keeping. I think I can ensure that they will not be harmed by kangaroos here.

BTW, The K10D with DA16-45 will survive an 0.25sec immersion in fresh water

glad it survived! I'd suggest not repeating the experiment if you can avoid it!

good shots.

go Czech Republic!

We of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland didn't want to be in your silly competition anyway......

TBH I was rather hoping that the fact we're not in it would have limited the TV coverage, but alas it seems we have to watch every game anyway. One more reason not to have a TV

Photobuckets resizer is notoriously poor quality, resize to whatever you want to use yourself before you upload and the quality will be fine.

looks like you have panning down to a fine art, very nice shots.

good heavens you people have massive fuel tanks

if I were to empty my car completely, push it to the petrol station and fill up it would "only" cost me £51.70

nice experiment Chris, without wearing out a K10D and boring yourself to death when you should be out taking photographs I can't see a way to improve it.

The only thing I would add to this discussion is that for exceptionally long focal lengths it is important to use both a remote release (either the wired or IR one is fine) AND the 2/3s delay. Finger shake doesn't die down fast enough at 1000mm+.
