Idiots at play

Just arrived home from a dirtbike riding long weekend with a bunch of mates. Mostly enjoyable i must say.

We have a stupid game we play where as, if you are first into bed after a heavy night drinking around the camp fire and anyone happens to find a stray lizard, marsupial or giant insect it gets shoved into your sleeping bag while you sleep.
Well i was the recipient of such a prank and was sleeping on the bottom bunk inside my van with my camera bag on the top bunk when i was rushed by 3 drunken fools with a baby Kangaroo
In the ensuing meelee my bag was knocked off the bunk, it was unzipped and flying across the van went my Bigma, Da*300, Pentax 100mm macro,
and DA*50-135. aaaaaahhhhh.
Luckily my camera and 77mm were left in a smaller bag after the days ride and survived my idiot mates

I cursed them all for thier stupidity and began cleaning up the mess, Lens caps were missing but found the next day.
Well after much checking of my valuable lenses, it appears i got off easy, with just the lens cap off the 50-135 broken. Whew

They were all very apologetic the next morning and i could'nt stay mad at them as i have performed this silly ritual on occasions myself.

Moral of the story i guess is to make sure your gear is safely stored away if you have drunken prankster mates on the prowl.

I hope everyone elses weekend was a little less stressful

I guess, with that kind of friends, you won't need enemy's in life
Seriously, I am glad, that was the only damage( besides the hangover),you suffered.
Martin.
Best regards,

Martin.

I do realise the seriousness of the risk to your gear, but your rendition of the story had me and my OH in tears - of laughter. Just picturing the scene with a baby kangaroo is too much

Have you ever seen a baby Kangaroo in a sleeping bag with someone trying to get out its a sight to behold.
I think the roo got the last laugh that night and he ended up sleeping under my bunk for the night.

not only does puting your gear away help, but having your gear set up (ie camera settings at the same settings), and organized will ensure, at a glance that you've not lost/left anything behind. the zipping everything that zips, buckling it up makes sure you can grab it and go on a monents notice.

too bad you didn't get any photos of the mahem, sounds like fun!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I think you should send your expensive lenses to me for safe keeping. I think I can ensure that they will not be harmed by kangaroos here.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Hi Clarky. I would have thought that a baby roo would have felt quite at home in a sleeping bag - can't be so much different from its mothers pouch - other than having to share it with a lashed up Aussie!

I want to feel sorry for poor Clarky, with all this Aussi-bashing. I really would.
But over here, in North America, we have never forgotton (nor should we forget).... the unprovoked, psychological, tactical, assault on our sensibilities from the eighties.... started with "Crocidile Dundee, then escalated with "Yahoo Serious".... only ended after the U.S. threatened a tactical nuclear response...luckily we Canadians settled the matter, by agreeing to import "Fosters" beer.....

(ah, who am I kidding...we were never sensible).
