I have e-mailed one of the SE England MEPs whom I know well and I hope she will vote against.

Yes it prints to A3+ and is a Canon Pro 9000 Mk II . I think it has now been superseded by a later model but I have had it for more than 4 years and have had no trouble at all. It was one down from the top model at the time as I was feeling distinctly unhappy about the money which I lost on the Epson ( also A3) not too speak of the cost of the continuous system inks. My understanding is that Canon has a service network of nominated repairers which is easily accessible but Epson deals with things centrally and very expensively. Although nearly all my colleagues use Epson, I have always found Epson to be fairly prone to clogging. Certainly the combination of this printer and the inexpensive compatibles (described above) seems to work. My only reservation would be the longevity of the prints and I suspect that they would fade if exposed to direct bright sunlight for any time, but they seem to be fine in other daylight. In any case I do not kid myself that anything I produce is worth keeping in perpetuity!!

I do a fair amount of printing for camera club competitions. As I often have to print more than once to get things as I want them ( despite a calibrated monitor and the use of ICC profiles), it can get very expensive with original inks so I have used various 3rd party ones. Initially I bought a fairly pricey (£500+) Epson printer and tried to economize by using a continuous ink system by a reputable manufacturer, whose inks, whilst not being cheap, promised to be cost effective. Whether it was the continuous ink system with all its tubing or the actual inks, the printer head clogged very seriously from time time and eventually terminally and despite going back to the dealer from whom I had purchased the CIS, the cost of repair and head replacement was in the region of £300, - so I sold the printer for spares on ebay! Following that I bought a Canon,(which unlike Epson printers, allows user replacement of printheads, should that be necessary). After the warranty period I moved on to Jet Tec cartridges which gave good colours but still clogged from time to time and there was also a problem that some of the cartridges did not seat properly. In discussion with Premier Inks of Leamington Spa about this , they suggested I tried their even cheaper Japanese compatibles which come in blue packaging, simply labelled 'Ink'. I have used them now for about two years and have had to clean the heads once. Even after the printer has not been used for a month, there does not seem to be a problem. I had these inks profiled so that I now have an ICC profile for them, but I do not find the result very different from using the Canon profile (appropriate to the type of paper) which was supplied with the printer. Anyway I am very happy as I can print as much as I want without counting the cost too much and without any worry that my printer will be harmed.

My first SLR - a Praktica 1V had this lens which i think was the standard one sold with the camera. I like the colours it produces, but in those days the colours had more to do with the brand of film one was using than the characteristics of the lens, I think.

Just received a reply from ON One support to say that the K3 is NOT supported. All other Pentax DSLRS up to and including K5ii and iis are supported. They did not say when or if K3 would be added. It is sad to see such a lot of compact cameras of other makes which are supported but it seems that the K3 is not important enough to be supported even though it has been out for 2 years I think

The software is attractive but when I opened a DNG file from my K3 and compared the result with the same file opened in ACDSee pro, I found that the latter pulled out much more detail than the On One software so for me this software at least it is not the bargain that it appears to be.

Carried out update as prescribed and then camera behaved abnormally. When I turned it on, it showed the orange light which usually lights up briefly when you insert a card. It stayed on for about 7 or 8 seconds. Then the camera appeared to be dead as there was nothing on the top screen. I switched off and on and got memory card error message. Finally I removed the battery and after this was re-inserted the camera behaved normally. Never had any problem with previous updates - but all seems OK now and I have checked that the new firmware is operative.

As a member of a Surrey camera club not far from you, I may well have suffered at the hands of the same judge. An effective critique requires both photographic knowledge and personal relations skills and unfortunately some of our judges are sadly deficient in the latter and can often do a lot of damage in demotivating the authors of the images. I agree with other respondents that the greenery is a minor distraction. I think the image is however a very decent attempt to show the windblown grasses, even if it maybe lacks a bit in overall impact, but to say that the image is not acceptable is in my view pretty wide of the mark. Do not let the judges grind you down - if you like it , then it is enough!

Are you using any filters? I could not get mine to autofocus properly with a polariser.

Alas I succumbed to the 16-85 yesterday - if only I had waited a day the temptation would not have been so great! Lens Buying Addiction needs to be recognised as a serious illness and appropriate medication devised!
