Genuine Pentax M42 Mount adapter Posted in Classified Adverts |
Would anyone like a genuine Pentax M42 mount adapter. These cost silly money when purchased new but are probably more reliable than cheaper 3rd party alternatives. It is good condition and I am looking for £22 posted to UK addresses. |
Kenko Smart Filter slim Circular Polariser 82mm Posted in Classified Adverts |
Bought this in June for my DFA 24-70, but having just moved to a lighter system after many happy years with Pentax, this filter is surplus to requirements. It has been used a couple of times only and is therefore as new. Would anyone like it before I list on ebay? Looking for £20 to include postage. |
SSD. Worthwhile? Posted in General Photographic Discussion |
I beg to differ. SSDs are not particularly expensive and you only needa small capacity one to contain your opetaing system and programs - data goes on the usual hard drive. I have a 250GB SSD and it makes the system much faster - in particular start up time is reduced to seconds. Whether you can do it yourself depends upon your level of expertise and confidence in doing it. I got a local computer firm to do mine. I would highly recommend the upgrade. |

Lens now sold but pending payment. |
K-1 owners: Have you gotten rid of your APS-C equipment? Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
When I bought a K1, I retained my K3 thinking I might continue to use it, but in the event I found that I prefered to use the K1 and the K3 was gathering dust and losing value. In many ways the two cameras were too similar and I felt that I might use a second camera more if it was clearly different and suited to different occasions. I PXd the K3 and 16-85 for a smaller and lighter camera from a different maker, so I am in effect running two systems and intend to use the second system for street and travel photography but will continue to use the Pentax for the rest. |

I would go for one and four as my picks but they are all stunning. |

Not to worry John, although it put me to some trouble. I could not quite see how I could photograph the marks any better than I had done. |

The message to which I was replying in my second posting seems to have disappeared! Very odd! |
Serif Affinity Photo Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
I have trialled this program which looks very promising but its Achilles heel is that it runs very slowly on my PC and takes ages to open a RAW file even though my PC has plenty of RAM. |
DA 18-135 WR for sale Posted in Classified Adverts |
It looks new because apart from this one instance where I was jogged as I took the picture at the Tower of London, I look after my kit and as I had quite a few APSC lenses for my K3, none of them were used to any great extent. The third picture in Traflagar Square was taken after the lens was marked and as you can see the marks have no effect on the image. I do not think that I can improve on the images of the marks, as you have to look carefully to see them. I attach 3 further general pictures of the lens. I would happily have kept it, if I still had an APSC camera because it is a useful walkabout lens, but it vignettes very heavily on Full Frame. I have to declare the marks as a seller, but as a user you could happily forget about them and enjoy the lens at what must be a bargain price. |
DA 18-135 WR for sale Posted in Classified Adverts |
I am selling last of my lenses not compatible with K1. It has two small marks, neither of which show on images. They are hard to see and even harder to photograph. Otherwise the lens is unmarked and not greatly used. I found it a capable and useful lens and am offering for £130 including RMSD to reflect the two small defects. It has Pentax front cap, lens hood and generic back cap. I bought it unboxed from SRS in 2013. |
FS: Pentax 70mm Limited Posted in Classified Adverts |
I had this lens and it worked well on my K1. If there was any vignetting it was not not noticeable. I sold it to buy another lens which would be of greater use to me but this lens is a gem if you want that focal length. |
Next Photoshop Elements.....when...?? Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
I got a reply from the author ( Andrei) who e-mailed what looked to be an identical file to be put in the program's root directory. Anyway after I overwrote the original one, the demo works fine and I can now access both curves and channel mixer. Thanks so much for your help. |
Next Photoshop Elements.....when...?? Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
Thanks Barrie, Yes you are probably right. It looks to me that the demo version is possibly too limited to show the full potential. I will see what reply I get and may well hazard my £13 anyway - it is pretty small beer after what I have spent on gear this year - K1 and lenses!! |
Next Photoshop Elements.....when...?? Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
Thaks so much Barrie for taking the trouble to show me. I have no problem in locating the elements + icon but when I click on it, I do not get any of the nine tools which your graphic displays and the elements dialogue box pops up, but neither channel mixer or curves appear when you click on their names. I think this is because they have simply not installed themselves. I have reinstalled elements+ and there is no change so finally I have emailed the author to see whether he can help. It seems a very useful program but I shall not spend even £13 until I know it is going to work on my PC . I wonder whether windows 10 has anything to do with it. |
Next Photoshop Elements.....when...?? Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
I'm on Elements 13 and Curves and Channel mixer shows up in the Color and tone tab for me. is that where you are trying? Thanks the the instructions led me to think that you brought up the curves dialogues by clicking on the elements + panel - this works for the effects but nothing happens when I click on the curves or mixer words. I have now found the curves dialogue under the adjust colour tab but still can not find the channel mixer anywhere! |
Next Photoshop Elements.....when...?? Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
Thought that Elements + looked interesting, and I downloaded the appropriate version for PSE 14 and although some of the effects seem to work OK, I have been unable to summon up the dialogue box for channel mixer or curves as nothing happens when I click on the appropriate tab. Clearly I am doing somethhing wrong but the on-line guidance has not helped me. |

16-85 vs 16-45 Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras |
I have seen positive comments from owners of the 16-45 but it has long been discontinued and I would have thought that the 16-85 ( which I do possess) was in an entirely different league . It is WR, covers a greater range and is pretty sharp across the frame and I have the impressions that most owners of this lens are delighted with it.. I would think that a SH copy of the 16-45 would be much cheaper, but you get what you pay for. You could however be happy with it. |

Pentax DA 15 F4 Ltd Lens Posted in Classified Adverts |
Having succumbed to one of the current SRS offers I can no longer justify holding on to all of my APS-C lenses. My DA 15mm Ltd Lens has its original box, caps and pouch. It has not had a great deal of use since I bought it new a few years ago. It is in great condition, - lens is of course unmarked and you have to look hard to see any signs of use. It is of course the old version without HD coating which is preferred by some users to the new version. Anyone living within reach of the Surrey Sussex border is welcome to inspect it. Photo attached which probably does not do it justice. £240 to include RMSD. Payment by Bank Transfer Miles |
Sigma 17-50m a good kit lens upgrade? Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras |
I do not think that you would be disappointed with the Sigma 17-50 which DXO found to be the sharpest lens tested with K5 and K3. I was delighted with the results. The Tamron equivalent is also pretty sharp but the copy I got was slightly decentered and once I saw the distortion on one side, my eye was always drawn to it. The Sigma is on the heavy side and not WR. Last year I bought the Pentax 16-85 for its greater reach and WR capability and I have found this lens also to be very sharp. I parted with my Sigma 17-50 with heavy heart as it in part duplicated the focal length of the 16-85 and I needed a contribution towards the cost of a K1, but I would happily have kept it and returning to your question is a considerable step up from the kit lens. |
DA lenses with K1 Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs |
The DA15 Ltd vignettes very strongly when used in FF mode. However if you crop out most of the vignetting and compare with the same scene taken in APSc mode, you still get a significantly larger and wider photo in FF mode than you do in APSc mode. I think this could be useful. |
this will be intresting Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion |
I am somewhat surprised to see this old argument revived here. In film days photographers manipulated their images in the darkroom, and now we do it in the digital darkroom, albeit with many more tools at our disposal. The camera rarely manages to capture an image with the vibance and impact which we perceive with our eyes. I think that this is mainly because we have a brain to interpret the scene and the camera does not, it simply has a much less powerful computer algorithm. We can however redress this with some appropriate post processing. If some people are happy with images straight from the camera, then good luck to them but they will rarely realise the full potential of their images without some adjustment. I do not know whether the OP's image is intended to be an OOC example of how the image should appear. If it is, then I would not be happy with what seem to me to be rather oversaturated colours. It is, however, his image and he is free to present it as he likes it. |
