The 'older' version is also reputed to be better, but I haven't tried the newer one so can't speak from experience.

Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on the 'distortion' of the 10-20mm. I've only noticed it occasionally around 10-11mm, which the 12-24mm can't do anyway and it's easily fixable in pp. Sometimes it even adds to the shot!

You can get a good used copy for around £230 and if you decide you don't like it, won't lose out on re-sale.

I don't think you will find many people, myself included, who have the Sigma 10-20mm and don't love it and it would certainly be worth adding to your shortlist. Much cheaper than the other options as well. If you are handy, there is a (possibly) faulty 12-24mm going cheap on Ebay at the moment.

Just to say that I have decided against the Q after much thought. If I get a compact it will probably not be a Pentax, unless the MX-1 turns out to be something very special and is released in time. This means I won't be able to share anything else on this thread which is a shame. The number of helpful and much appreciated pm's would indicate a level of frustration at the only Pentax rules, where a full and frank discussion might be helpful to me and anyone else in my situation. I can't be the only person who would like to be able to compare alternatives with advice from members who have Pentaxes and know what they are talking about when making comparisons.

I may actually end up keeping the K-30 and getting a compact for when the dslr isn't appropriate, so best of both worlds.

Thanks again

PC World/Currys do the red, green and yellow, but I can't find any UK stockists of the silver. There is one on Ebay at present (search jessops pod), but not sure if it's the red or silver (has both colours!)

Came across this site the other day whilst considering various compact and compact system cameras and wondering how the size compared with my K-30. No substitute for actually handling them, but with the demise of Jessops that's not as easy as it was. You can compare camera bodies only from a number of angles, add any lenses using the link in the top left in red and compare sensor sizes as well. The compact system cameras look quite small until you add a lens....

I have the Pentax K30 with a Dal lens, does that mean it's weatherproof?
The camera is, but the lens isn't.
