Leaf fall seems late this year, is that right? The photos here show an unusual abundance and thickness of leaves so far into October... Well that's my impression anyway. Hmmm, I'd better get onto the Internet to research what mysterious forces could be controlling the seasons this year......

I too like the colours, warm and just the right vibrance in the reds. My instinct in No 7 there would be to boost the blues in the sky, its crying out for it I think....

Hi Gareth, yes its the regular Poole to Swanage service, there's about 4 daily return trips. A very scenic ride and its the closest I have ever come to Brownsea Island, which features photographically here quite a lot!

It really works well as the processing suits the textural interest in both the clouds and trees. Also the black tones of the cows bring a solidity, a sort of base, to the dynamic range.

It's good to see another older model, the KR, still putting in useful service... Like my K7, some of our Pentax models just seem to keep going and going....

The first is a lovely image. It is all about the light.
That sounds a bit like that comment about someone having a "great personality"....

No 4 for me, it has great compositional balance and completeness. The soft pastel nature of your images comes through as a sort of theme.

Great low light techniques!

Well let's see if you actually like it first, after I've put my money where my month is! Then I'll explain the steps, which will vary of course depending on the software being used.

I enjoyed the invitation to edit your photos so much that I'll admit to using a few more little steps then I originally referred to.... Let's see what the verdict is on these two edits....

First is your original.....

It would be good to see a few opinions here. It's not a competition, I would fully accept the view that the originals are preferable... I think the edits are subtle, but in my view add a little fizz and pizazz that benefit the images, and perhaps bring them closer to the natural dynamic range that was on display there.

I've not seen it that close up before, and it's much more substantial than it appears from the distant shores around Poole Harbour, where I normally see it from.

Nice imposing low angles and bright sparkling light makes some great photos here!

Here's an editing hint I would like to pass around, not just to you here of course but for all of us who like to carefully control the dynamic range and contrast in our images... I have found it can be beneficial to find a "whites" or "whitepoint" control (as distinct from "highlights") and to independently pull this up a little to allow the very top end of the white range to kind of peak and poke through (eg some bits of the clouds, or hotspots on metalwork or windows). This shouldn't pull up the overall high zones, just a few bits here and there. It can give an added sparkle and freshness to images where the dynamic range has been pulled in a bit for technical reasons (such as with the images here). Anyway, maybe worth a try for us and some discussion.....

Thanks David and David, I hope to go again next year and hopefully we'll get a bit longer to explore further around the headland!

I can appreciate the processing treatment as a natural enhancement of the glass and reflections, and of course removing the variables of colour casts and hotspots. I like the bolder contrast in nos 1 & 10.

As to the compositions..... I think No 2 is better with the tails cut off, not the heads like in 6, 7 & 8....we've not supposed to cut off heads in photos, I think thats right... (do the shadows count? , I'm not sure...)
