Thanks David, but have tried two different SD cards - just in case one was faulty. The upgrade software is installed in the root directory as directed in the upgrade instructions. Done this with all my pentax cameras in the past, without a problem. Just a little concerned that my K3 may have a fault......

Chris, thanks for posting your problem with an update...I am not alone!!!

I have spent the last hour trying to update my K3. For some reason pressing the Menu Button whilst switching on the camera does not display the current firmware version, nor start the upgrade process either?

Is the K3 different from the K10-K20-K7 or the K5 in the way an update is applied. Just checked with the K5 and pressing Menu at startup shows the current version. K3 refuses to play using that combo. Can see the firmware version by going through the menu screen.

Going to take the Christmas tree down now and pack it away for another year. Hope someone may have some advice re the K3 update problem I have by the time I log in again.

Knowing my luck it's a camera fault?

OR, it could be an age thing

Started to watch Cloud Atlas this evening and must admit - gave up on it. Logged on here for a catchup on the days posts and unfortunately followed the link. Not sure which was the worst experience!

seeing as I am moving down to a one DSLR owner it seems silly owning 3 full sized flashes, this was my back up/secondry flash when wanting TTL and wireless sync, in great condition no battery door issues whatsoever.

£98 delivered (bt or chq or collect from Leicester pay cash and save £8

JP Service Solutions, approx £180 less 20% if you are a PU member (worth the £10 joining fee just to get the 20%)

Around £120 to fix it - Johnsons seem to be the firm to go to. I speak from personal experience.

There seems to be to be a pattern emerging with the SDM failures and issues. It seems to happen more often when lenses are used less frequently? Maybe the trick with these lenses is to use them a lot and keep the motor free.
The DA* 50-135mm lens is my most used lens. It was rarely off my K5 until recently. The auto focus packed up about 18 months ago and I sent it back to SRS who sent it on to Johnsons for repair.
Now its packed up again and its out of guarantee. Looks like another £120 repair job. Its a lens that costs around £900 new and its super sharp when it works and I use it so much so I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet.

Thanks for the info regarding repairs - fingers crossed I don't need to need the services of either repair centre for the 300 or 60-250

I like all of these. They do convey a damp misty afternoon very well, especially with the tiny droplets clinging to the foliage.

I don't mind, they will probably double the prices of the lenses once done.

Anyway, nice to see they have been concentrating on the important stuff rather than on something frivolous like a WR teleconverter or 100-400mm lens.
Today, Pentax also announced two new flashes - so they have not had time to develop the DA* 250-600 yet!

Just love Pentax Cameras - So still have my ME Super, LX, istD, istDS, K10, K20, K7 and K5.
K10 is used by my wife and the K20 is a backup for the K5. The istD/DS along with the K7 are resting in the camera cupboard in my office!
