And how do you feel to carry a tripod that is 2 kg or more in a photographic day-trip when you probably walks quite a few km?

If I carry all my gear, with the camera in the Fastpack 200, it becames quite heavy after a while. I can imagine with a tripod on top of that.

Probably the redsnapper is the best for the stability and money (don't know the quality), but 2,650 kg are a lot, aren't they?

Cullmann 1363g (difference) £103
Velbon 1750g (+ 400g) £75/85
Slik 2030g (+ 280g) £99
Redsnapper 2630 (+600g) £75

Specifically in Australia, 4 weeks, of which 3 weeks in bus tour or backpacking: so I would say general photography, landscapes and animals mainly.

I have got a 12-24, Sigma 17-70, 55-300, 50 1/1.7.

-17-70 (probably I will fill lack of tele side) (79x83mm, 455g)
-17-70 + 55-300 (79x83mm + 112x71mm, 440g x2)
-shall I buy a DA 18-250 (or DA/Tamron 18-270) (86x75mm, 455g) or the quality will go too down?

I'm realizing that probably it is important to bring filters as well

Thank you

To summarize:

Velbon luxi L £85 with quick release
Culman Magic 2 £103
redsnapper £75
SLIK PRO 340DX £99 - (Slik)

----------------- £75(85)------ £103 ---------- £75----------£99
Maximum Height 161cm ---- - 144------------ 160---------147
Minimum Height 19cm -------33------------ 29 ---------- 46
Folded Height 39cm ------ 34.5 ------------ 62 -------- 49
Weight 1320g(+430)---- 1363g (with head)- 1970g (+660) -1580(+450)
Maximum Load 2.5kg ------2.5 ------------ 8kg --------5kg

the lightest and most expensive is the Cullmann Magic. Maybe 2.5kg load is enough, it is always nice to walk as lightest as possible in my opinion.

Which one would you choose?
Thanks

Hi Stefan,
I didn't hear from the shop, even if I wrote them on sunday.
Being no big difference in price between Cokin and Hitech and then between hitech and Lee, I still can't decide between holder and filters from Hitech or Lee.
Holder don't know, filters probably Hitech

Hi Stefan, thank you for your help. those prices are very cheap, I wrote them an email.

AS Cokins looked quite expensive (£114 holder+grad nd kit +£10 adaptor), yesterday I did a research and found out that Hitech and Lee could be an alternative, slighlty more expensive, but much better quality (compared to that price)(but if Cokin are now that cheap, this may change things)
SO prices I I found are:

Holders
-lee holder £44.79
-wide angle adaptor 77mm £30.99

-Formatt hitech holder MK4 (1, 2 or 3 slots) alluminium+ring £46
-wide angle adaptor 77mm £26.81
The 105mm front ring holder is designed to accommodate the screw in polariser, and various lens hoods.

Filters
"Grad filters have to be moved up and down to position the filter correctly in the image, therfore filters that need to be moved are 100 x 150mm, and filters that do not are 100 x 100mm."

Prices:
-Lee ND grad soft/hard set 100x150 £106,35
-HItech 100x150 £85
-HItech 100x100 £59

- HItech nd kit standard 100x100 £51,00
- HItech standard single £25
- HItech High dencity single £38
-Lee single couldn't find out

Someone mentioned casting effect using more HItech filters together, and slighlty easier to be scrached, while they are cheaper and lighter.
Any advices?

BTW, Lee is experiencing some delay: "We have had some production problems, that are being resolved at the moment, but supply has been interupted, and we are currently trying to fulfil many back orders currently in our system.
I cannot tell you when the problem will be fully resolved exactly, because it is an ongoing situation, but we should be back to normal in one month.

Thank you

Ok thank you that looks good as well, very similar carachteristic slightly more expensive.

Velbon luxi L - Culman Magic 2

Maximum Height 161cm - 144
Minimum Height 19cm
Folded Height 39cm - 34.5
Weight 1320g - 1363
Maximum Load 2.5kg - 2.5
Spirit Level Yes
Carry Case Yes

But do I need to buy the head for both of them?

as to the max focal extension that would benefit from mhigher maximum load, do you reckon 2.5kg is not enough?
Do you know anything with a higher one?

Need to take a day off from filters headache , and sorry for the huge delay about tripod

So both looks very good, the Velbon luxi (exactly what I was looking for!) and both the Velbon CX-460 Mini, while I couldn't find any Cullman Magic.

I need to do some questions about (sorry fir the ignorance!):

1-Is there any reason to buy the Quick release head with Velbon Luxi and above all, what is its use?

2-better a mini tripod like the C460 or a gorillaz? or are simply different thing?

3-Just to understand, some tripods have maximum load 8-9kg. Obviusly this is better for heavy lenses (super super tele) but if my k20d+da55-300 is no more than 1,300 kg, can I benefit from a higher load tripod, or a simply stone bag is a good solution?

4-Which requirements do you look for (like built in spirit level, Quick release plate, etc) when you buy a tripod?

Thanks
