Well guys have a good day at SRS today and fill us in on all the news and what freebies I'm missing out on by having to work today

Can someone ask if there's a DA* 11-16 f2.8 coming soon? And when the 1.4 teleconverter is due ( and why they don't re-release the 1.7 AF adapter?)

Thanks. (and Good Luck Chris!)
Mark

I miss 2 wheels. the "fun police" won't let me have another one. Bless her!
Somebody tried to kill me every three years ( well somebody tried to kill me every week commuting in London, but every three years one of them actually managed to hit me.)so she said no more at least until the kids have grown up. Which as all married men, who want to stay married, know , is code for never!

Thanks Stefan,
I've used your links and the first time the pictures appeared ok but now they don't show the picture unless I click on the little box with the x in it. I've got some more reading to do I guess!
But the lens is sharp right throughout it's range, I guess I won't be needing a DA*300.......... yet!

Oh, wait, they've started working again....just to add to my confusion.

Not going to be much room in there then!
Anyway back on topic....I love this lens, punches well above it's weight.
Hope this works, it's my first attempt at posting pictures.
Here's one of my better efforts, and it's also through double glazing.

and a 100% crop. Both unsharpened jpegs.link

Damn, back to the drawing board.

I'm sure that young lady wouldn't be happy that you think she could have a 21 year old son!

I have to work on Saturday now, which is a shame as I live about 4 miles from SRS. Plus I broke my foot two weeks ago so I'd have to get the wife to drop me off within hobbling distance, as I'm on crutches for another three weeks, and that would be like dropping an alcoholic off at the pub as far as she's concerned!
I was hoping to quiz the Pentax people about a (weathersealed) Pentax version of the 11-16 2.8 Tokina lens and the long awaited teleconverter. ( And pick some of the alleged freebees! That would have cheered me up a bit!)
If anyone is going could they ask if the teleconverter will act as an autofocus converter for old glass like the last one did. - And why they don't re-release the old version!

Makes you wonder what the medium format camera they were working on, before the Hoya buy out, was really going to be like.

P.S. Pentax if you're still listening 11-16 f2.8 DA* please

I don't have one either but if the price wasn't so high I would buy one! They are supposed to be very good. You set the manual lens focus to infinity and off you go.
There is a guy on ebay in china selling 7 "new" as in mint, unused, boxed, unsold stock foom Japan at £230 each. Tempting, as used ones go for anywhere between £150 -£200.
I'll wait to see if the new x1.4 SDM version does the same thing first though, if they ever pull their finger out and release it.
Right now a good ultra wide is top of my wish list though, when funds permit. (Hopefully the Tokina 11-16 2.8 in Pentax DA* livery, pleasssseeeeee Pentax!)

No, a 1:2 500mm is not the same as a 1:1 1000mm. The size ratio is the physical size of the image on the film frame (or sensor)
in relation to actual size of the object. So a 1:1 macro gives the same sized image on the film as the object measures in real life.
A 1:1 macro gives you a life sized image regardless of the focal length of the lens. And the minimum focus distance is largely irrelevant too.
