Tried a square crop - you were all right!

Thanks for the comments

Unfortunately the flowers were not all that close together and coupled with a shadow from my tripod if I got any closer, this is about as frame-filling as it got.

I could try a squarer crop rather than this 16:9

Here's the first result from my new 50-135

Seems to be a great lens, very sharp and fast and acurate focus on the K-7 - definitely worthy of it's reputation.

I just need to start saving for the 16-50 now

The result of my first real attempt with my D FA 100. Now the flowers and bugs seem to be coming out I hope to be getting a lot more practice.

I really like the Aligator and Feathers shots - even as abstracts you still know what they are.

As Don says - with the frames they would look very good as poster sized prints

On my K7 the new (to me) 50-135 does seem to focus and lock very quickly - cetainly fast enough for my needs.

I should have a chance to get out and play with it at the weekend so I'll post up some results.

I've heard good reports of Blurb books.

John - Your ADAPS book looks great. Some lovely photos and real variety.

I haven't tried making any photo books yet but know a number of people who have.

I tend to have enlargement prints made of individual photos and then mount and frame them.

I do like the idea of books for larger collections of photos - projects or themes

I'll have to try one.

Thanks for all the advice.

Decision made - I've now bought a second-hand DA* 50-135 from SRS.

I went into the store as they had 3 available at slightly differing prices. The one I settled on is in mint condition and also has a UV filter. Matt at SRS was extremely helpful and vey knowledgable.

I haven't had too much of a chance to play with it yet but I'm sure it will spend ma lot of time on my camera.

My LBA works the other way - I just have to remind her about the ongoing cost of monthly livery bills. New lenses seem like good value then
