Do you make photo books?

How many of you print your photos? Do you make books/albums of them?

I've just collected the photo book I made of my Norwegian trip. I tend to make books of holidays, or occasionally of a photo series or theme.
I use the print service of on of our major chain shops - Hema, rather than going for a professional service. They do a really good job I think.

I really like them, they make the photos seem more "real" some how, and it is nicer to look back at holiday memories in a printed book than on a computer screen . Easier to carry around to show people too.

This sounds like a really good idea. I'm going to have to try this now. I'll sit down with the wife later and design some albums to order.

I much prefer prints to on screen but have not had anything printed for years.

Yes, I've made a few - I think that they're are really good idea, especially to look back at holidays etc.

I have found that quality varies quite a bit, the best ones I've had here in the UK are made by CEWE

I've done 10 photobooks using Blurb so far, here's the latest one:

It took 2 days to do, but that included taking in all the varied files and making them the same standard, so there was a lot more work than if they had been all my own shots.

I haven't tried making any photo books yet but know a number of people who have.

I tend to have enlargement prints made of individual photos and then mount and frame them.

I do like the idea of books for larger collections of photos - projects or themes

I'll have to try one.

The idea of a project is sound. The ADAPS Year Book, for example, is now in its fourth year and we hope it will build up into a permanent record of what members were producing over a long period of time. Otherwise, there's no trace of people after a very short time indeed.

Websites are fine, but eventually they will not be maintained and paid for and will disappear to be replaced by others. A book or a print may have a longer life.

There are many happy hours to be had looking at old family prints, but there's going to be a gap now that digital has arrived. Virtually no-one will try to look at what's on an archive CD or DVD, even if they can still read it.

I've heard good reports of Blurb books.

It did crossed my mind to make a book there but it never came that far.

Now that i can print for almost nothing at FVS i doubt i'll use them soon...

No Stefan I've never used them, for two reasons - you can have a maximum of 60 pages in a book (my Norway Album has 92 :shock, and they are expensive!

No doubt the quality is better than by Hema, but I am very happy with their albums.

Indeed, that is a very good reason to print. Who knows if you'll even be able to read the disks in future. Once you have a print there is a fairly long lasting record and it can be scanned if the original data is lost.

Yeah i know what you mean but i like they way the books are bonded, you don't have a deep bonding in the center but it lies flat so you can really fill the whole page with a photo.

I've never thought of doing this, in fact, very few of my shots ever get printed.
Now that you've mentioned it, though, I might consider doing it.

I often do photo books. I like prints better than computer screen. But I don't outsource them. I do the whole thing, including the bindery in our printing shop.

The only one I've done was Blurb. I was very pleased with it.

I collaborated on a book and we used blurb The quality of the final book was excellent. The challenge was for each contributor to use a single lens throughout the month, taking 1 photo a day link Have also used a similar company to record my grand-daughters first year and my Kenya Safari. Very easy to do and a good way of producing a present!
