Unfortunately the flowers were not all that close together and coupled with a shadow from my tripod if I got any closer, this is about as frame-filling as it got.
I could try a squarer crop rather than this 16:9

Personally I prefer the fact that they don't fill the frame. A squarer (or even square?) crop might work better. I find the long thin crop a slightly uncomfortable shape for some reason.

Yes, I prefer a more regular aspect ratio too, and there's a little too much dead space on the left. Perhaps it would have been better composed with the flowers to the left, so the sharp one is nearer the middle? It leads the eye to the edge of the shot as it stands.
