I would also urge an ePhotozine style limit to size and quantity.

When people post extremely wide images, Ihave to scroll to the right (19" monitor too) to read the text. 800X640 should be the absolute maximum, and no more than 2 per day to prevent abuse of the system.

Surely a polariser (polarizer) comes into its own for landscape shots, which would include anything from about 12mm up to around 45mm?

My own use of a polariser is limited to landscapes, water shots, or buildings with a high glass content. I tend to use my 12-24mm for most of these situations, the 16-45mm otherwise is my 'standard' lens.

That image looks pretty drastic to me. Have you tried removing the front element to clean it?

PENTAX !!!! upgrade our firmware !!!

Pete can you reccommend a top notch RAW editor other than silkypix and PS ??

One problem I am having is when I view a jpeg in windows picture and fax viewer the image looks nice and almost right but when I open it in Photoshop it looks murky and totally different. When I tweak and save and view the final result in windows viewer again the same happens. I am sure there is a simple answer. My cousin has the same problem.

Pete
Penatx have upgraded our firmware twice. More in-camera sharpening is not high(not present) on the wish list of most users.

Phase-Ones Capture One LE but wait for the next release as K10D is not yet supported.

Check your Photoshop colour space is the same as your camera.

The bottom line is really, if you have taken an 'in focus' image with a K10D and a sharp lens, you can produce sharp results during post-processing. The difference between Pentax kit and 'the rest' is that this sharpening is not automatically over-stated with the in-camera processing.

I think that most of us agree here that sharpening is best left to individual taste, and not the camera manufacturer. To that end, Pentax has delivered what Pentax users wanted.

If you really really really want more automatic in-camera sharpening for your JPG's, you need another make of camera, not Pentax.

If you are happy with the best DSLR camera on the planet (IMHO), then you need to shoot RAW, RAW, RAW.

The desired image does not end when the mirror returns to normal, there is still work to be done later. That takes time and practice and investment in decent post-processing software to get it how you want it.

Personally, I rely on my own opinions about what is pleasing to me. I certainly don't want to see this forum reduced to that of DPReview.

If you haven't learned yet, DPReviewers are very pro Canon & Nikon and anti-Pentax. Take what you read there with a pinch of salt and preferably just link to DPReview articles rather than bring them here. Anybody remotely interested will follow the link rather than debate the same issue twice.

You see, we are already pro-Pentax here. Perhaps you should air your views about DPReview threads in their forum. Just a thought.

Pete,

The criticism over JPG sharpness is usually levelled at Pentax images by . . . Canon users. Canon are well known for too much in-camera sharpening. Switch to RAW (PEF or DNG), no problem.

Pentax are right, in my opinion, to leave the final creativity step to the photographer.

Pete, you have a 50mm lens, not 55mm, pay attention

For a portrait shot I doubt you need the skylight (warming) filter. Leave it off.

George, give it a rest . . . please.

Your posts are getting more and more personal, and less and less about the subject of photography.

You might like to ponder that before lashing out again.

Looking after the frail and elderley can be frustrating, I know, I've done it. How can we help?

Regards,
