Not only are you doubling storage space and slowing the camera down but ...
Can you explain why you think the camera will 'slow down' when you can record raw files in either .PEF or .DNG, not both together?

They're as close to identical as makes no difference - unless you have one of the much older Pentax bodies where only .pefs were compressed and where .dng files were correspondingly much larger.
I think .DNG files produced by the K20D, which is one of the cameras I have, are significantly smaller than its .PEF's.

Dammit, now I need an 8-16mm lens, just when I thought I had enough.

Thanks Brian

Y'know, I'm quite happy with my Sigma lenses and could happily switch from Pentax glass. Then I could buy a small tropical island with the savings.
Did you notice the thread in "Leads to Deals"
Sadly, yes

And then there's a Sigma 24-70mm 1:2.8 EX DG HSM for sale here as well . . .

They are cormorants.

You've got 3 yes's and you're through to the next round

It's a Kestrel. I think this one is a female. The male has a grey head, the female's is brown. It's easier to tell them apart if you can see their back. The male has a chestnut back, the female is rather plain brown/beige.

Oh, and a Kestrel is a member of the genus Falco, which means its a falcon rather than a hawk.

This feature looks both useful . . . and dangerous in the wrong hands.

And the following appears at the end of the Construction/Specification page :-

SIGMA / NIKON (D) / CANON

If you prefer, you can still save your images as .PEF if you fear losing some of the EXIF data, then convert them to .DNG using Adobe's standalone converter.

This of course will almost double the amount of storage used if you want to keep both formats.

I haven't checked the file sizes of the .PEF and .DNG files produced by the K-5 II, but for other cameras, the .DNG file is significantly smaller, which I think is a good reason to use .DNG.

The 'Power' switch on the grip simply enables the controls that are duplicated on the grip and the battery drain from enabling a small amount of electronic circuitry, if there is any, is going to be almost negligible. It does not affect or influence which battery is used first.

I, like many, choose to only have a battery in the grip for the reasons already stated. Pentax DSLR's don't seem to switch smoothly between batteries when one is depleted.

Beware that sometimes during general handling, the switch on the grip can be accidentally switched on, or part way to on, and then the enabled extra buttons can be a problem causing unexpected behaviour. This has caught me out on occasions.

Seems a kosher site to me, but I probably wouldn't risk it either, even if I had the money.
