Beautiful lens!

As someone already said, how much did you pay?
For such a rare item (according to OP), I probably wouldn't answer that question either.

I have both silver and black limiteds and the black finish is definitely more easily scratched. The silver finish seems pretty bullet proof (not that I've tested them to that extent!)

Personally, I also think the silver finish looks classier

If you scratch a surface that is black on silver, the silver will show through if the scratch is deep enough (anodizing is very, very thin). If you scratch a surface that is silver on silver it will not show so much.

I tried that too.. but before I send it for an expensive repair I may try to reinstall the latest flash update.. Or do you think that could kill it all together..
Reloading the firmware is not likely to cause any more harm to your camera. Try it.

Is it not more likely that the black ones, rather than being painted, are probably anodised aluminium? The older, pre-plastic, lenses were anodised, not painted.

I think the DA 17-70mm lens is perhaps the first to adopt this mount. The Kaf3 mount brings the demise of the screw drive focussing mechanism in favour of SDM only.

This means that these lenses will not work with any Pentax camera prior to the K10D, it being the first Pentax body to employ SDM focussing.

Does anybody know which other new lenses will use this mount?

Will this be the only mount used from now on?

But it looks so akward on black bodies like the K10/K20 and others....
Exactly how relevant is that, say 30 seconds after taking the image?

Personally, I prefer the brushed aluminum 'look'. It stays cooler than the black one in the sun too.

Go on, you can tell us. You decided to keep the K10D, didn't you?

I'm very genuinely surprised that nobody grabbed that bargain kit whilst they had the opportunity.
