Sorry Peter - crossed in post

ME Super - I did consider getting a spares or repairs but figured the plate might be as bad. Can you get new-ish ones with certainty anywhere?
Harrow Technical or Asahi Photo. Asahi Photo were able to get a part that i needed to repair a lens, Harrow technical couldn't get the part.

It shouldn't be too expensive or difficult to replace the pressure plate, or entire back. Which body is it?

Already on the K20D, down the left side just below the strap lug.

I have done comparisons at all apertures with 2 manual + 2 autofocus lens manually. Only the manual primes give me problems. Both primes are bayonet mount. I have used o right angle magnifier on the view finder, I have checked the diopter setting. I am now going to set the lens/newspaper distance according to the barrel markings and try Bob's idea.

You still haven't answered mikew's question. Are these M42 screw thread primes, or bayonet?
Bold my edit.

Best wishes, Kris.
Missed that, sorry.

Geotagging wont interest me its bad enough with "sat nav" taking me round in circles.
If you are old enough to have a store of photo's that you haven't seen for at least 10 years. Have a look at some of them and note how many that you have no clue about the location.

Geotagging sorts that problem, if it's implemented properly.

Built-in geotagging & WIFI in an optional grip (these functions to be powered by an additional, but small, battery), higher frame rate, Nikon style creative flash control.

FF? Not for me. keep the same sensor and PRIME engine, just improve everything else.

Oh, and get rid of live view. P&S cameras might need it, DSLRs don't.

I have had a couple of occasions where the camera with lens has either hit something, or been dropped (strap breaking)
I doubt it was a pentax strap that broke. All of my Pentax straps have been bullet proof.

ahh ok - so effectively the P30 was an A3 minus motorwind + manual mode.
Pentax P range of film bodies are about as basic as were ever made by them.

The P30 has a max shutter speed of 1/1000 and no TTL flash control. It's exposure modes are limited to P & M and has a range of only 1-18EV compared to 20 or 21 for most of the other Pentax film SLR's.

As such, it's one of the least capable Pentax cameras and therefore not worth very much. In fact, if it has a new battery fitted, sadly the battery might fetch more than the camera.
