Typical UK garden spiders but these had flourished to quite a size.
Last night I slapped my Tamron 70-300mm on my K100d and took a few shots.
I had tried with my micro-nikkor but couldn't get close enough without a step! (Short Ar*e!)
Today the spiders lost their lives when some older boys attacked them with a football - Shea was quite distraught.
Here are the shots - Shea's spider RIP.

I have a 200mm f2.8 Soligor lens with a Nikon mount. I do use it from time to time but the lens is heavy and its not an ideal solution to try to hand hold the lens onto my K100d and take a photograph at the same time.

The loss of the water and droplets are completely out weighed by the increased impact of the shot.
If I was being ultra critical I might now crop it slightly more at the top and right to give a dark edge all across the top of the picture.
But there is no right or wrong when an image works this well it is all down to taste. and for me this photo now really does work!
Good stuff!

How is our status within the forum achieved?
When I joined I was a Junior Member (and I was), this was followed for a time as a Member (true). Now however I appear to be a Site Veteran! This just makes me feel old!
I associate veterans with Passendale and the Somme and such like.
I'm not complaining really - just curious -is it automated and related to number of posts?
I'm sure that this has been covered before but if it is just post number related then I am one post closer to becoming younger again!!

My Tamron 70-300mm at 300mm minimum focus distance of 95cm

My Nikkor 55mm macro with AI-PK Adapter (optics removed) min distance 10cm
Nikkor 55mm @ f5.6
The Nikkor is a great macro lens but at 10cm focus distance I'm certain even plants start getting nervous. The Tamron is really difficult to hand hold for macro shots and almost as bad on a tripod due to size and you have to be in the next field. The shot from the A50 is just to show what a difference that close focus ability makes.
If I was buying a macro lens I'd be looking at the 100mm-ish lenses (in fact I regularly search e-bay for Tamron 90mm Macro lenses as a cheaper alternative) Mainly to extend the focus distance a little but also so that I can have a "nice" portrait lens for free!
