At least for me ultrawide also means landscapes and landscapes without the possibility of NDs or polarizers (with ultrawides rather for better colours and transparent water than actually polarizing the sky) simply are a no-go, so I went with a 10mm lens.
Your mileage may vary of course and the 8-16 is a great lens by itself.

As you might have guessed this is quite a big thing for me as I have always really hated being unnecessarily encumbered, and I also dislike having to choose what to leave behind and would rather take the whole lot!
Funny we have the same primary reasons for enjoying Pentax, although our lens selection seems to be quite different (according to your signature) - the LTDS are definitely my new backbone, and since I have "my main 5" also LBA slowly seems to get weaker and weaker...

Hello Pentax! My keyboard has all the letters required for doing so - even some additional ones!

But the f/2.8 also don't come for free. You can grab the 15mm f/4.0 ltd and let's say a complementing 43mm f/1.9 ltd and still travel lighter than with the 14mm f/2.8 alone.
Both great lenses, as are the Sigma ultrawides, each with unique virtues. The 15mm perfectly fits the concept of high quality and compact lenses of the other ltds - a big ltd lens with 77mm filters wouldn't do it for me - horses for courses once again.
I bought mine (used, in perfect condition) a few weeks ago for about 450 pounds on ebay. For me a very good deal as new ones are significantly more expensive over here and all sorts of imports almost for sure add a tremendous tax premium to it...
They aren't often seen second hand on ebay, but if you have the time you can just check regularly and might get lucky.
I'm still conflicted about getting this lens. Sample images online seem a mixed bag.
Very happy with it so far. Build quality, handling etc. is as wonderful as with all the other limiteds.
Optical quality is also great. Wide open soft corners - well that's the curse with most ultrawides - but once stopped down to f/8.0 the corners are quite sharp, as is the center at any aperture.
Here are early testshots I did when I got the lens in order to find the best aperture for landscape shots. I'd say f/8.0 hits the sweet spot, unless maximum sharpness across the whole frame is not the primary goal (e.g. greater depth of field for very close objects or smaller depth of field for a slightly blurred 3D-look). Mind the diffraction limit kicking in at about f/11.
K-5, basic RAW conversion via ACR:
- Extreme corner
- Central portion on the upper border
Some prefer even wider angles with one of the Sigmas or "greater" zoom range in general. But for me, it's once again the high quality supercompact prime, perhaps together with one or two other limiteds. I guess anyone who feels the same will hardly go wrong with the 15mm f/4.0.
Greetings
Unfortunately the dividers are not adjustable which will prevent a perfect snug fit for most lenses.

I've had several long tern saved searches and the system has worked very well.
I rather liked that myself but I only have 2 Ltd's and decided not to bother [...]
Greetings

Interestingly the 8-16 does take a filters, just to dispel the myth, but only with its collar on (it has a thread) and only at 16mm or else you get the vignette from collar itself.
I mean, you buy the 8-16 for one specific reason - 8mm...
