Keep the K70, not just as a backup to the KP but as a second camera. Put a different type of lens on each and you have a quick and easy way to swap lenses quickly when the need arises - just grab the other camera. A long telephoto on one for wildlife and a shortish lens on the other for landscape is be a good combination when traveling around. A macro lens on one and a longer, general purpose zoom on the other works when generally wandering around. A macro lens on one and a long telephoto on the other works in the garden (macro for bugs, long telephoto for butterflies, either for flowers depending on size). I've done all of them. Of course, you need to be able to have both at hand, so perhaps not particularly helpful for walks and rambles.

Another reason for having two cameras is if you want to do something that involves a special rig e.g. desktop macro. One camera stays on the rig, the other is in the bag for when you want to take it out. Both are readily available whenever you want to use them and are already set up with suitable settings so less chance of being caught out when starting shooting.

Thanks for the pointer to a lens hood. Since it's 49mm thread, I was going to check my heap of random hoods before searching the web. But now I know that a hood does exist I may as well buy yet another hood for the heap!
I wondered whether you'd notice! The Q-S1 stopped recognising that there was a lens attached. First thought was that the camera was on its last legs, but the same thing happened when the 01 was attached to the Q and both Q and Q-S1 worked OK with all other lenses. Before the total failure, there was about 10 minutes when it was intermittent - removing and remounting the lens, removing and reinserting the battery or even just switching the camera off and on sometimes got it going again. But eventually, it died completely. I have, of course, cleaned the contacts but no change. There's at least one report on PentaxForums about an 01 failing, but nobody seems to have plucked up the courage to take one apart to find out the cause.

Oh dear, my Q 01 prime died. It was such a good lens and so useful that it had to be replaced. No problem, there were several on the usual auction site. But there was a problem - as well as finding and buying a 01, I noticed a 08 wide angle zoom at a price that wasn't as outrageous as it usually is. To buy or not to buy? That was the question. Well, my bank balance is now smaller but an 08 is now in my Q collection. It looks good, it feels good, and from test shots taken with the Q-S1 on the daily dog walk it can take good photographs. Here are a few, the first with the sun just out of frame to see how the 08 would cope.

There's a DA* for £350 BIN and another on auction with a couple of days to go currently at £271. The only £150 300mm I've found is an M, not DA*.
Yes, the same thing has been happening as has happened over the years in many other areas. 200 years ago there were horses everywhere, it was the only way to get around. Then trains and, later, motor vehicles arrived. Horses are now mainly just for enthusiasts who appreciate them for what they are, not as a means of transport. 100 years ago and more there were pianos everywhere, most middle class homes had one, they were in pubs and clubs, and there was always someone who could knock out a tune to entertain whoever wanted to listen. Then came recorded and broadcast music. Pianos were destroyed in their thousands. They are now mainly just for enthusiasts who appreciate them for what they are, not as a means of general entertainment. If there is a piano in a home, pub or club it is probably digital, not 'real' (or in my case, one of each ). Piano tuners are rare, there is only one 3-yr course in the UK. But pianos, pianists and piano tuners are still around, they are now just a specialist minority and no longer part of mass culture.

That's good news indeed . But don't forget that when re-importing the camera you might have to pay UK VAT on the repair bill. However, that's based on my understanding of general UK rules. I might be wrong and in any case things might be different in your part of the UK. Keep saving!
